Situated between Grimaud and the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, below the slopes of the Massif des Maures, Cogolin is the ideal holiday destination for lovers of land and sea holidays. To start your stay in the best possible way, start by visiting the old village of Cogolin : go through its narrow streets, pass in front of its porches, its square of the balls, its fountains, its churches and its picturesque squares. Its carpet factory, its pipe and reed factories for wind instruments, its numerous antique dealers, its ceramists and its potters will let you glimpse the importance of the local craft industry in the history of Cogolin. Go to the Place Bellevue from where you will be able to observe, in clear weather, an unobstructed view of the village and the Gulf. During your walks you will discover the Gothic, classical and Romanesque influences that have made the city such a place of rich heritage : dating from the XV and XVII centuries, the Saint-Sauveur Saint-Étienne church is made of basalt from quarries located on the territory of Cogolin. Its original architecture mixing Romanesque and Gothic art but also its furniture and frescoes make it one of the most beautiful buildings in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. But if there is one building that is of capital importance in the history of Cogolin, it is its Clock Tower : dating from the 13th century, it was once part of the defensive system of the town with the surrounding wall. In front of the latter, you can observe the location of an old drawbridge.
Committed to its roots deeply rooted in Provençal culture, Cogolin multiplies celebrations, flea markets, craft fairs and shows throughout the year to bring to life its century-old traditions : you can attend the "Bravade" in May, the "Corso" and the Provençal carnival in February, medieval festivals in April and numerous festivals during the summer period.
As for nature, we know that the immense landscapes of the Moors and the Gulf of Sait Tropez are enough to seduce. The green Vallée de la Mole, the green lung of the Gulf of Saint Tropez, is adored by hikers: its rich biodiversity, its rivers and forests are the perfect playground to discover all the wonders of Cogolin and its surroundings. A botanical path will allow young and old to discover the typical local vegetation, when the Crêtes path will take the most sporty to the heights of the Massif des Maures : in the heart of the cork oaks, in the middle of this bubble of pure air, you will be able to admire breathtaking panoramas on the massif and the Gulf. Home to one of the largest ports in the Gulf, its marina is divided into two distinct parts : the Port Cogolin (and its 180-seater basin) and the Marines de Cogolin (1600 berths for 4 basins). Stroll along its quays, dine in its restaurants and board motor boats, sailboats, catamarans or yachts for unforgettable sea excursions to Monaco, Marseille, Sainte-Maxime, Cannes and Antibes. From the nautical base, activities are offered throughout the year : you can sail, kayak, surf, paddle and learn the pleasures of sailing with friends or family. On the beach side, the peaceful stretch of sand of Cogolin faces the mountains and the tranquility of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. Less frequented than the beaches of Port-Grimaud, Saint-Tropez and Sainte-Maxime, it guarantees long afternoons of idleness and tanning under the Mediterranean sun.
Finally, how to evoke Cogolin without talking about its gastronomy ? Its Cogolinois wines, its inimitable Tropezian Tart, its goat's or sheep's cheese, its vegetable caviars, its aïoli, its fish soup, its bouillabaisse, its chestnuts, its fish, its nougat and its honey make Cogolin an irremediably gourmet destination.
