In the heart of a very well preserved environment, Grospierres is located along the meanders of the Chassezac river which flows in the north of the village into the white waters of the Ardèche. Old perched village made of splendid stone houses, Grospierres can be visited on foot. To begin, there is nothing like a little stroll in the old and paved streets of the hamlet of Chastelas. As if out of time, this amazing place was once the heart of the village of Grospierres, abandoned by its inhabitants during the 19th century. Built on an imposing rocky promontory overhanging the very green valley of Chassezac, it offers to its visitors incredible panoramas on the Ardèche nature. Get lost in the woods and forests surrounding Grospierres, to discover the Chapel of Notre-Dame-des-Songes, or the Font Vive Resurgence: a real jewel, well hidden in a green oasis in the heart of the scrubland, this natural spring of immeasurable beauty is about ten meters deep. Nestled in a magical environment, it amazes its lucky visitors with the sparkling turquoise of its mysterious waters. But don't worry, if the place is relatively discreet, it is well indicated by signs and accessible by paths, starting from the town hall of Grospierres.
Other walking itineraries also start in the village, such as the GR4 or the very popular Via Ardèche, a greenway that will allow you to discover magnificent panoramas through the fertile plains of the Ardèche, along the river or through the Cevennes mountains. In addition to hiking, biking or horseback riding, you and your family can discover the "Accrobranche Adventure Camp": with its 15 sporty and fun courses between river and forest, its zip lines over the water, its via ferrata, its paintball center or its laser game, it is the perfect place to add a little adrenaline to your vacation. Moreover, you can rent canoes to go down the Ardèche, on courses ranging from 8 to 12 kilometers.
The other advantage of Grospierres is its ideal location, only 15 minutes away from Vallon-Pont-d'Arc: known for its Chauvet Cave, but also for its majestic arch over the Ardèche (the "Pont d'Arc"), Vallon-Pont-d'Arc is the perfect place to practice white water activities, but also to swim, hike, relax under the sun or go for long canoe rides. Preserved and astonishingly beautiful, this magnificent site will be the icing on the cake of your vacations in Grospierres!
