It is on the banks of a protected lake, only 4 kilometres from Mimizan, that the village of Aureilhan lies. A dream destination for holidaymakers in search of nature and disconnection, Aureilhan is a real bubble of sweetness and greenery, right in the heart of the Landes.

The exceptional setting of this site sparkles thanks to the lake of Aureilhan-Mimizan as well as the abundant vegetation which surrounds it. Equipped for water sports and leisure activities, you can practice many activities. Fishing enthusiasts with family or friends can take advantage of the pontoon on the lake to bait some fish in the early morning. Witness to local history, this pontoon was built by the Duke of Westminster to access his castle, located on the other side of the lake. You can also observe "W's" (for Westminster and Woolsack), engraved on the different ramps of the pontoon. Built in 1911, Woolsack Castle is a former hunting lodge, listed as a Historic Monument since 1978. Imposing and impressive in its sublime architecture, it is said that it was the refuge of many socialites, from Charlie Chaplin to Coco Chanel, passing through the King of Spain Alfonso XIII, Salvador Dali and Winston Churchill, who found inspiration to paint there. If this haven of peace in the shade of the trees cannot be visited, you can always try to approach it by walking on the banks of the lake, or from a small boat, in order to observe it more closely.

The town of Aureilhan is also worth a visit : the Sainte Ruffine church in Aureilhan is one of the most visited buildings. Remarkable for its Romanesque style, it is famous throughout the region for its miraculous Saint Ruffine fountain, which is said to have "healing" properties.

In terms of sporting activities, you will not be disappointed : windsurfing, paddle, catamaran, canoe, canoe and pedal boat will be at the rendezvous of your afternoons under the Landes sun. Fans of thrills can even learn to surf, a true religion in the Landes region ! Don't miss the bullfighting show in Mimizan and the Thursday morning market. And the lake in Biscarrosse if you want to do water activities.

Not many outings in the Landes.... Visit of the ecomuseum in Marquez to be done. A nice moment for young and old alike.
