The city of Makarska is located in Croatia, and more precisely in Dalmatia, in the county of Split-Dalmatia. Nestled at the foot of the Biokovo mountain range, 60 kilometres from Split and 150 kilometres from Dubrovnik, Makarska is known for its magnificent river of the same name, considered by some to be one of the most beautiful in Dalmatia. What strikes you immediately when you arrive in Makarska is the beauty of its sea and beaches. Whether you choose to pack your bags in winter or summer, you can only be conquered by the splendours of the Adriatic countryside. If it is a must during your stay, it is the port of Brela located in the peninsula of Makarska: you will love walking along its tip Saint-Pierre as well as its quays, which will allow you to enjoy splendid panoramas on the green massifs of Biokovo. Continue your visit by crossing the large Kacic Square, unmissable thanks to its 18th century Saint-Marc church, to continue your visit through the old town and its magnificent 16th century Franciscan monastery. Stroll through the Kotisina Botanical Garden and Biokovo Park, then walk, cycle or drive to the heart of the Makarska Riviera. Stroll along the Riviera ports, from Bratus to Baska Voda in the north, through the quiet Topici, Brela and its pebble beaches, and finally head south towards the Riviera and discover Tucepi, Zaostrog and Gradac.

Thanks to its ideal location at the foot of the Biokovo massif, less than fifteen kilometres from it, Makarska offers you the opportunity to combine the pleasures of the sea with those of the mountains. With its rich biodiversity, Biokovo Natural Park offers a wide range of sporting activities such as cycling, climbing, caving or hiking on narrow winding roads that will allow you to enjoy incomparable views of the Adriatic and the village of Makarska, especially from the chapel of Sveti Jure, the highest point in the perched massif at 1762 metres above sea level. For the more adventurous, you can experience the unique experience of paragliding over Biokovo, with wonderful views of neighbouring Bosnia and Herzegovina, the islands of Hvar, Brac and the (famous) Makarska river.

Makarska is a gourmet city with many brands and restaurants where you can taste the (highly iodized) flavours of its traditional cuisine. On the menu? Mostly fresh fish cooked in the oven, but also roasted, stewed or grilled. You will also find tasty local cheese platters topped with olives and Dalmatian ham, always drizzled with 100% local olive oil. Don't miss the Dalmatian veal blanquette with tomatoes, the Makarana pie and the Rafioli de Makarska, a dessert prepared with shortbread dough (to whom aphrodisiac virtues are attributed...).

Makarska is also known for its nightlife on its quays but also for its bars and other clubs that will allow young people to celebrate until the early morning on the beach, including the "Art Café" club, the "Buba", the "Westa" or the "Marineta". Finally, don't miss the Island of Brac accessible by ferry, and its superb beaches of Bol and Supetar, not to mention the very photographed beach of Zlatni Rat. Vis Island a little further away is worth a visit for its blue cave, a diver's paradise, when the medieval town of Korcula (Marco Polo's birthplace) will delight fans of architecture and history.
