The commune of Villefranche-sur-Mer is located on the French Riviera. With its origins dating back to 130 years BC, Villefranche-sur-Mer has a particularly rich heritage: walk along the terraced streets and the (numerous!) staircases that dot the city, such as the Rue du Poilu, the emblematic Rue Obscure (covered), the Escaliers de l'Hôpital and the Escaliers de la Gare. From opulent houses to small squares with fountains, you will discover everything that makes the unique character of this historic city: here, the emphasis is on the tall, colourful houses with undeniable charm, and the cobbled streets, most of which offer wonderful views of the sea. Some visits are to be made, like the old city of the XIIIth century, or the Saint-Elme citadel of the XVIth century: built overhanging the port and the beaches, this stronghold was once used to defend the city from invasions by the sea. Today it is a cultural place par excellence, with an auditorium, but also many splendid museums such as the Museum of Art and History, the Goetz-Boumeester collections (which include works by Picasso and Picabia in particular), and the Volti Foundation-Museum. In the old town, another site is particularly worth a visit: the Chapel of St. Peter. Although its exterior is classic, it is inside that the most beautiful part of your visit will take place. Decorated by none other than Jean Cocteau, this 14th century Romanesque building is dedicated to the patron saint of fishermen. And many fishermen have made Villefranche-sur-Mer their home: so, to take the pulse of Villefranche-sur-Mer, there's nothing like a little tour of its port. Bordered by bars, restaurants and terraces where it is good to sit and enjoy the sun, the quays of the port are particularly conducive to walks hand in hand in the sunset.

The rather "preppy" and elegant atmosphere of Villefranche-sur-Mer contrasts wonderfully with its natural setting, where the abundant and fragrant vegetation invites you to stroll. Overflowing with life, Villefranche-sur-Mer will offer you a vast choice of activities, from hiking in its heights (on the Col des Quatre Chemins side, the Belvedere, the Castle of Madrid, via the Pointe de Rubé and the Pointe Madame) to sea excursions.
