Close your eyes for a moment and imagine... Vast green expanses, sunny weather, walks with the melodious lapping of the water and the scent of lavender as your guide... Welcome to Oraison! Oraison is a town in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, and is one of those pretty corners of Provence that we love so much. Between the Gorges du Verdon and the Luberon, this charming village perched at an altitude of 376 metres has its contours outlined by the Durance, which flows through it on the western side. The Rancure and Asse rivers also flow through the village, which is a small town in the heart of the countryside, dotted with white and green oaks, and offers a unique setting for those who dream of authenticity. In the heart of the town, you will discover beautiful houses, typical of the architecture of the region, with a whole range of small shops where you can do your gourmet shopping. Provençal tarts, sweet and savoury biscuits, honey, fruit jellies, terrines, pâtés, calissons, nougats and almond-based delights are all available here. In terms of architectural heritage, the local star is the castle! In the heart of the town centre, the Château d'Oraison was built at the very end of the Middle Ages, then modified during the 19th century, when it welcomed the scientist Louis Pasteur within its walls. If you take the time to stroll along the rue Elie Louis Julien, the place Abel Roger, the chapel of the Penitents, or the sloping rue Auguste Brun, you will discover the 9 fountains, the bandstand, and the 3 wash houses that make up Oraison's small heritage.

In order not to miss anything of this nugget that is Oraison, the latter is equipped with many hiking trails, such as the loop "Bois de Saint-Martin" (9 kilometers), the one of the Oliviers (6.5 kilometers), the trails "Vésier" and "Sainte-Anne" (respectively 7.5 and 6 kilometers), as well as perfect itineraries for bike rides. In addition, 2300 hectares of forest cover the commune of Oraison, offering walkers and other sportsmen a vast open-air playground in the middle of fragrant oaks, sage, thyme, wild essences, but also rosemary and savory, which grow in abundance in the area. A must do? Go to the Notre-Dame de Ganobie Abbey, Les Moures à Folcarquier for a sporty hike with breathtaking views, or to the nearby village of Valensole. Known throughout the world for its lavender-covered plateaus in the summer, Valensole is a must for those who dream of seeing these immense flowery and fragrant expanses, the time for a bucolic stroll and a few photos at sunset.

Finally, still in the commune of Oraison, the Buissonnades Lakes are a must-see. Nestled to the south of the town, these lakes (one for swimming, one for fishing and a reserve lake) are perfect for a nautical interlude with the family. You can play a game of pétanque, have a picnic, go for a jog on the fitness trail or take a guided tour of the area, but also fish and swim. Water games, beach volleyball and stand-up paddle sessions for the young and old alike will complete your stay.
