A peaceful commune on the Côte Bleue, on the southern tip of the seaside resort of Martigues, Carro is an ideal holiday destination for a relaxing holiday. With its air of a small village at the end of the world, Carro offers a dream anchor point to escape the crowds that rush every summer to the beaches of the Mediterranean.
About forty kilometres from Marseille and its wonderful creeks, Carro offers its curious visitors a real breath of fresh air in a small corner of paradise. This small fishing port, still in operation, is well known to regulars for its fish market, which treats the eyes and bellies of many connoisseurs every day. Bordered by pine forests and scrubland, Carro enjoys a setting of exceptional beauty, eminently suitable for relaxing walks through its residential districts (Auffans, Arnettes, Arqueirons, Marrane and Soubrats) and its coastal paths such as the GR 51 crossing its limestone hills, rocky coasts, moors and alleys bordered by olive trees, lavender and fragrant laurel trees. Whether you are in a couple, with friends, with family, by bike or on foot, we assure you that a walk to the sound of cicadas singing with a view of the sea is always worth it!
Carro has a beautiful beach, half pebble and half sand, bordered by turquoise water to be damned. Located very close to the port, this beach is not very large but is enough to accommodate many families who come to enjoy its tranquility. Aficionados of sporting activities such as surfing in particular flock there when the winds are blowing, to challenge the few waves of this preserved cove. So well preserved that it is a privileged diving spot on the Blue Coast, thanks to the Baou Tailla quarry, an ancient quarry on the water's surface, a real diver's paradise that shelters many species of colorful fish.
A little further on, Martigues, the Madrague de Gignac, Sausset-les-Pins, the fishing port of Niolon, La Couronne and its creeks as well as Carry-le-Rouet and its creeks are also to be added to the list of your visits. The Carro market (Wednesday and Saturday) is also not to be missed: located in rue d'Arnette and Place Joseph Fosciola, you will find locally produced fruits and vegetables, and enough to cook delicious local dishes such as bottarga, capon, bouillabaisse and Provencal stew.
