Marking the border between the Bouches-du-Rhône and the Vaucluse, the commune of Mallemort is one of those small villages in Provence where life is good. Nestled at the foot of the Luberon and watered by the Durance, this historic village full of charm perched on its rocky spur enjoys an ideal location to visit the main prestigious sites of Provence.

Only 1 hour from Marseille and a few steps from the most beautiful perched villages of the Luberon, Mallemort is one of those towns where it is pleasant to stroll. At the bend of its old lanes, you will certainly cross the road of a chapel, oratories (in particular the oratory Saint-Pierre located at the crossing of the avenues Joliot Curie and Charles de Gaulle which is one of oldest of the department), a typical house of the XVIIe century as well as the church Saint-Michel dating from the same time. Continue your peregrinations on the side of the Jewish quarter, to discover its Roman ruins as well as the remains of the castle of the bishops of Marseille, which occupied the premises from 1260 to 1789. If today only the keep of this castle destroyed during the Revolution remains, know that its stones are distributed throughout the city since they were used for the construction of many Mallemorta houses. Just behind the keep, there is an orientation table from which you can contemplate one of the most beautiful panoramas of the city on the Alpilles, the Luberon and the villages of the Durance valley. Moreover from the commune, there are many places from which you will be able to observe beautiful points of view on the Durance. Among Mallemort's curiosities is its old wooden suspended bridge over the Durance dating from the 19th century : if this bridge built on the order of King Louis-Philippe is no longer practicable today, know that a new bridge has since been built just next door. We advise you to go there in order to admire and immortalize beautiful panoramas. On the land of Mallemort is the hamlet of Pont Royal, known for its Moulin de Vernègue, once used as a grain mill for the archbishops, and which has since been refurbished as a hotel. We advise you to go there if you are a golf lover : its 18-hole green in the middle of the green vegetation is absolutely superb. The mill also has a spa, a real haven of peace where hammam and jacuzzi will allow you to enjoy long moments of relaxation.

Mallemort and its surroundings have a lot to offer to nature lovers. Located at the foot of the Luberon, just a few steps from the Sainte-Victoire mountain in particular, Mallemort is the ideal place for hiking thanks to the passage of the famous GR 6 on its land. Follow this path then take the Lambesc road and the paths which criss-cross the garrigue for a discovery of the local natural heritage. By bike, there too, there are many ideas for walks in Mallemort: through the departmental roads, forests, country roads, the Alpilles and the perched villages of the Luberon, the itineraries follow each other without ever being the same, yet with one thing in common each time : the singularity and magnificence of the landscapes. For the bravest, know that a 40-kilometre loop from Mallemort will allow you to explore some of the most beautiful sites in the Durance. Fishing enthusiasts can enjoy their favourite sport on the Routine des Vernegaux, Lac Saint-Jean or the trout fishing pond.

Taking advantage of an ideal location to visit the most beautiful corners of the Bouches-du-Rhône but also the neighbouring Vaucluse, Mallemort will allow you to do with family or friends a wide range of activities, from the most sporting to the most cultural. You can visit the Abbaye de Sylvacane in La Roque d'Anthéron, discover the Musée des Engins de Mallemort, visit the zoological park of La Barben, visit the castle of the same name, go to Camargue (90 kilometres away), but also go to Auron to taste its delicious goat cheese. You can also canoe or kayak on the Durance, hike in the Costes massif, walk in the vineyards of the Tour d'Aigues, go to the Château de Cavalon to enjoy its fruity grape varieties, and finally enjoy the beaches of the Côte d'Azur and their many nautical facilities, located only an hour's drive from Mallemort.
