While walking through the streets of Dives-sur-Mer, do not be surprised to see the name "Guillaume" associated with many places (the marina, the craft village...). It is in fact the famous William the Conqueror who marked the history of the city by gathering, in the estuary of the Dives, the fleet with which he set out to conquer England in 1066. But the winner of the battle of Hastings left a more lasting mark of his passage at Dives-sur-Mer since it was thanks to his generosity that one of the most beautiful monuments of the city was built : the Romanesque church of Notre-Dame.
A city of history, Dives-sur-Mer also impresses with its immense heritage. After visiting Notre-Dame church, go admire the Halles, an imposing monument built by naval carpenters at the beginning of the 15th century. Classified as historic monuments and extremely well preserved, they still host the traditional Saturday morning market. Discover then the village of art, an old hostelry located in the heart of the city. Its oldest part also dates back to the 15th century and it now houses artists, craftsmen and shops. Also take the time to appreciate the Bois-Hibout manor house, with its unique geometric shapes, the Blue House, listed as a historic monument for its mosaics and its garden, and the beautiful villas that line the streets of the resort such as Bossettes.
Walking and cycling enthusiasts will be delighted by their stay in Dives-sur-Mer. By taking the GR 223, they can quickly reach the beautiful beaches of Houlgate and Cabourg or, a little further, Deauville. From the marina of Dives-sur-Mer, you can also board a boat for a stroll, a fishing trip at sea or to initiate you to sailing. Back on firm ground, go and meet the producers who will make you discover all the flavours of Norman specialities : oysters, scallops, cream, camembert, apples, cider, calvados...
