Want a seaside getaway, without having to drive for hours and hours ? Direction Trouville-sur-Mer ! Only 2 hours from Paris, this attractive seaside resort is the ideal place for a family or romantic holiday at the sea.
Less jet-set than its neighbour Deauville, Trouville remains one of the most popular holiday resorts on the Normandy coast. Situated on the Côte Fleurie, the city has many assets to seduce summer visitors: its sumptuous villas facing the English Channel, its long beach, its casino as well as its numerous sports and cultural activities make it an ideal destination on sunny days. Like Alexandre Dumas, Gustave Flaubert, Margueritte Duras or Claude Monet, take a stroll along the Trouville coastline. Measuring 1200 meters, its beach covered with shells and fine sand is lined with wealthy and colorful villas dating from the late 19th century. It is dotted with small striped and multicoloured tents, under which you can slip to protect yourself from the sun. Many leisure activities will delight young and old : in addition to traditional tanning sessions and sandcastle competitions, you can enjoy a swimming pool, mini golf, kites, tennis, diving, surfing, sailing or canoeing, but also pony rides and petanque games under the sun. Playful and original, opt for a paddle trip on the Touques river : you will pass at the foot of the casino, the Trouville town hall and the Belgian bridge, to finally finish your excursion on the Trouville beach.
Built in 1867, the "Promenade des Planches Savignac" runs along the beach for over 900 metres. It is one of Trouville's must-see routes for day and night strolls facing the sea. Its authentic and charming village is ideal for strolling, walking, cycling or rosalie. Its narrow streets form an original labyrinth in which you will love to get lost, looking for good places to eat. Every morning, the fish market is held on the quays : you will find fresh fish, just caught, scallops, mackerel, shrimp and seafood. From the Pont des Belges to the emblematic Halle aux Poissons (listed as a Historic Monument since 1992), don't miss the first fruits, cheese makers, butchers and local craftsmen who make the market, every Wednesday and Sunday morning. Take the opportunity to discover the local flavours, and to bring back a souvenir of this holiday, slip in your luggage a piece of bishop's bridge, livarot or camembert accompanied by a bottle of calvados !
Town of art, you will find in Trouville a multitude of galleries, but also workshops of painting, sculpture and ceramics which will allow you to express all your talent. Rue du Général Leclerc is one of the most famous villas in the municipality : Villa Montebello. This imposing residence shelters today a museum of art and seaside history, pleasant to visit after a day of idleness.
Trouville is also the perfect place to disconnect and take a wellness break, since the city is full of places to relax : yoga and fitness club near tennis courts, beauty institutes and thalassotherapy center feet in the water will allow you to find calm and serenity.
Finally at nightfall, take a tour around the famous Barrière de Trouville Casino. With over 200 slot machines, a disco, Black Jack tables, two bars and two restaurants with sea views, it is one of the most popular places in town.
