For your holidays, your main search criteria are: to be in a quiet place, not to come across hordes of tourists, to discover a little-known corner of France and to be able to commune with nature? But... Why didn't you think of the Cantal? Pack your bags, head for Saint-Constant!
It is in the Cantal, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, that the small town of Saint-Constant is located. Now attached to the new commune of Saint-Constant-Fournoulès, it has a little less than 600 inhabitants all year round. Located on the meanders of the Célé, in the Massif Central, Saint-Constant is 45 minutes south of Aurillac, and 50 kilometres north of Villefranche-de-Rouergue. Bathed in sunshine, the village is full of charm, a friendly and exotic atmosphere. To begin your visit, head to the heart of the village to discover its church. Recently renovated, it has an absolutely splendid facade made of beautiful stones that you can also admire on the houses located near the building and on the village school. After taking the time to go around the village and do some shopping, put on your trainers!
In the extreme south of the Cantal, not far from the Aveyron and the Lot, Saint-Constant is a green destination, which will delight lovers of outdoor activities. Here, visitors passing through will be able to take advantage of several hiking, walking and cycling routes, ideal for quiet family outings. The "Randonnée des Collines" is a must: it will take you along peaceful paths through the hill of La Garenne, the Maurs basin, thanks to a loop of almost 11 kilometres. One site in particular is worth seeing: the Château de Merle. Built in the 14th century, this former fortified castle, now in ruins and totally overgrown with vegetation, cannot be visited, but will captivate young and old alike on their way to Fournoulès, on the border with the Aveyron. The Cascade de Vachand 30 kilometres away, the Vallée des Daims 22 kilometres to the east, or the Sagnes lake to the west are all nearby sites that you can discover. Apart from hiking, the nearby Lot river is absolutely perfect for some refreshing walks, a dip in the summer, or to (re)discover the joys of water sports with the family. Our advice? Head for the Canoë Nature base in Asvolt, 32 kilometres further east: thanks to several sporting routes of 10 to 20 kilometres, you can discover canoeing, kayaking, but also paddling in a natural environment preserved in every way, ideal for disconnecting. And that's all you expect from these holidays in Saint-Constant: disconnect, get together, take the time, fill up with fresh air... So, are you tempted?
