It is in Charente-Maritime, only 10 minutes from Royan that is the pretty seaside resort of Vaux-sur-Mer. Appreciated by holidaymakers for its particularly pleasant climate, this commune situated on the Côte de Beauté has nothing to envy to the biggest seaside resorts, thanks to its numerous facilities, its beautiful beaches and its wide opening on the sea.
The city has four fine sandy beaches nestled between limestone cliffs, also called "conches" in the area. Do not miss the beach of the Council: located on the edge of the Domaine des Fées, it is a place full of charm where reigns calm and tranquility. Appreciated by those who prefer to flee the crowded beaches, it is conducive to idleness, facing the lighthouse of Cordouan. The beach of Nauzan is the largest of all : its wide expanse of sand is appreciated by families in particular, who come to bathe there in all serenity. The place is also famous for its beach volleyball court which hosts many sporting tournaments every year. Also, sailing, kayaking and other seaside activities are practiced in a superb turquoise water to the delight of water sports lovers. The lovely pedestrian walk along the beach is ideal for cycling, scootering or rollerblading. Finally, on the left side of the beach, you can see the green oaks of the Domaine des Fées, and the departure of the Sentier des Douaniers. This will delight nature lovers who will not fail to take it along the 5 km of coast of Vaux-sur-Mer. From Nauzan beach to Pontaillac beach, walk along the ledge to admire a breathtaking view. A real breath of fresh air, the trail is frequented by hikers, but also by joggers. Walk along the coast, and take advantage of the benches available to walkers so you can contemplate the panoramas that are open to you: wild coves, limestone cliffs, views over the entrance to the Gironde estuary, the landscapes follow each other and do not look alike. Finally, Vaux-sur-Mer being a city committed to the preservation of the environment, many cycle paths will make the happiness of the amateurs of bicycle : they were arranged in all the city, from the center of the village to the beaches.
Take the time to stroll through the small streets of Vaux-sur-Mer: you cannot miss the superb Romanesque church of Saint-Etienne de Vaux. Classified as a historical monument, its particular architecture attracts the eye, with its semicircular apse. Every year when summer comes, the church hosts classical music concerts, events not to be missed for music lovers. Not far away, the Nauzan marsh makes the link between the city and the beaches. Designed and transformed into a pretty lake and public garden, the place lends itself to walking and relaxing in a green space. Finally, take a walk through the market halls and stroll along the alleys of the market where local producers will make you discover the typical flavours of the region : Pineau des Charentes, Marennes-Oléron oysters, fish, crustaceans, mussels of bouchot, what to delight the most greedy holidaymakers !
