A paradise for sailors and windsurfers, the seaside resort of Saint-Pol-de-Léon is one of the most beautiful towns on Finistère's northern coast. Saint-Pol-de-Léon, an episcopal and seaside town both elegant and full of life, is a destination with character and one of Brittany's most outstanding religious heritage.
Between Roscoff and the Carantec peninsula, Saint-Pol-de-Léon is one of those cities where the weather seems to have no hold. Built around ancient and admirably preserved monuments, Saint-Pol-de-Léon surprises its visitors with its picturesque charm and gentle way of life. During your peregrinations, you will certainly discover its city centre adorned with superb religious buildings : surpassing all the steeples of the region, the Notre-Dame du Kreisker chapel overlooks Saint-Pol-de-Léon and the surrounding villages. 80 meters high, it offers wonderful views over a large part of Finistère. Its cathedral is also worth a visit : built between the 13th and 16th centuries, it impresses with its Gothic architecture, organ and carved slabs. Visit its town hall nestled in a former bishopric and stroll through its streets to the old houses made of granite: many stately homes and mansions built between the 16th and 17th centuries are still visible in the streets of the city today, such as the Prebendal House and its Renaissance ornaments or the Kermenguy Hotel, located rue du Général-Leclerc. The region of Saint-Pol-de-Léon also conceals many castles, including that of Kernevez, located rue du Port : of neoclassical inspiration, this building nestled in the middle of a landscaped park of 37 hectares extending to the sea is one of the most beautiful of the department. Not far away, the Manoir de Trogriffon is also not to be missed as the Manoir de Keroulas.
If Saint-Pol-de-Léon is known for its architectural jewels, it is also famous for its numerous local productions. Capital of the Breton artichoke and first vegetable zone of Brittany thanks to the "Phytopôle Bretagne", the commune produces large quantities of artichokes, cauliflowers, strawberries, broccoli, turnips, Roscoff onions, salads and tomatoes, for the greatest happiness of the inhabitants of the Leonard city and holidaymakers anxious to eat local, organic and seasonal products. In addition to Plouescat honey, Roscoff cider, cakes, seafood and freshly caught fish, you will be able to taste all these dishes in one of the many restaurants in the city.
Saint-Pol-de-Léon, with 13 kilometres of coastline opening onto one of the most beautiful bays in Brittany, is home to a rare ornithological reserve. Undeniably facing the sea, the town is closer to Plymouth than to Rennes, so it is not uncommon to pick up English radio more easily than French ! Facing the bays of Morlaix and Pempoul (Paimpol), Saint-Pol-de-Léon is a haven of peace and relaxation. Having several beaches much less frequented than those of the neighbouring seaside resorts, you will love to relax there. The beach of Saint-Anne (located near the islet of the same name) is the main beach of the resort : very long and adored for its turquoise water, it makes the happiness of the amateurs of windsurfing and kitesurfing. Thanks to the presence of a nautical centre, young and old can be initiated to the practice of these sports as well as to the optimist, the dinghy, the catamaran and the water walk. The Sainte-Anne islet is also bordered by small intimist coves, perfect for strolls and afternoons of calm relaxation. The beach of Saint-Jean is ideal for walks at dawn. When the sun marks the waves with its sparkling reflections and the sky is tinted with soft and reassuring colours, the panorama is magnificent. This beach, little known by tourists, has managed to preserve its natural and wild charms, just like on strike in "Pra an Déro", where a few privileged people come to fish and observe seabirds.
Saint-Pol-de-Léon is full of marked trails and itineraries : the "À Fer et à Flots" circuit will take you on foot, by train and by boat through Morlaix, Saint-Pol-de-Léon and Roscoff to discover the Bay of Morlaix and the Léon landscapes. The "On foot between sea and castles" itinerary, 2 kilometres long, is ideal for families to discover the treasures of Saint-Pol and its contrasting coastline. An interpretation trail also crosses the city, from the Bishopric's garden to the Saint-Roch Fountain, via the Quai de Pempoul and the Lavoir du Gourveau, so many sites to discover during your visit to the city. Finally, for hikes in the open air, on foot or by bike, experienced hikers will take the Leonardo Loop or the 10 km long coastal circuit. The latter will give you access to breathtaking panoramas over the sea and the indented coasts of the commune, from Pointe Saint-Jean to Pointe de Bouillenou via the marina of Pempoul and the beaches of Saint-Pol.
