In the heart of the Breton countryside, Scaër, a green holiday resort, is located at the foot of the Black Mountains. A land of hiking, Scaër will also offer you the opportunity to enjoy all the advantages of the Breton coast, being only twenty minutes away from the most beautiful beaches of Concarneau.

A natural destination par excellence, Scaër, in the heart of the very green Breton countryside, is a small paradise for lovers of outdoor stays. Watered by the Isole, this small village with all its authenticity will satisfy the whole family thanks to more than 165 kilometres of hiking trails open to walkers, but also to riders and mountain bikers. The Coatloc'h forest, a green setting spread over 310 hectares, is crossed by several marked trails perfect for excursions to the freshness of its trees (which were once used to make clogs), under which you will find many picnic areas ideal for lunch breaks. We particularly recommend the "Greenway No. 7": built on the old railway line from Carhaix to Rosporden, this road, surrounded by greenery, will satisfy nature lovers. Whether you are on foot, on horseback or by bike, it will allow you to enjoy the climate and the panoramic views of the Breton countryside, pleasant all year round. The banks of the Isole will be a vast open-air playground for hikers and river bathing fans, perfect for cooling off on hot summer days.

If Scaër seems peaceful and quiet to you, it is not the case all the time: every two years, since 1923, on Sundays and Whit Monday in odd years (yes, it is precise!), the "Scaër Cavalcade" takes place. Mythical carnival, first in Brittany and 3rd largest in France, it brings together each year many floats, thousands of costumed carnivalists, brass bands and street artists in charge of the good atmosphere.

What to see in Scaër? The Plascaër chapel, to begin with: also known as "Notre-Dame du Ganvet", this 1892 Latin cross-shaped building is one of the oldest monuments in Scaër, as is the Coadry chapel. The latter is one of the oldest in Brittany: with its splendid 11th century Romanesque nave and Fisher frescoes dating from 1870, this chapel, which can be visited on request, is absolutely splendid. Other sites bear witness to the ancient history of Scaër, such as the Menhir of Saint-Jean, which stands 8.30 metres high (making it one of the highest in the world), or the stones of Coadry, natural stones that have been a legend for centuries because of their cross shape.

Finally, a stay in Scaër would not be complete without a visit to the beaches of the south coast of Brittany. Concarneau, Clohars-Carnoët or Névez is only a few kilometres from Scaër by road: take advantage of this opportunity to swim, walk on the GR34, or opt for some water sports such as sailing, kayaking, scuba diving, SUP, rowing or surfing. And then you are well spent, take the opportunity to taste the flavours of local cuisine: cakes, kig ha farz, pancakes, far breton, oysters, seafood, kouign amann, cider and chouchen (at will, as the song says!) will delight young and old.
