Bordered by the turquoise waters of the eponymous gulf, Saint-Florent is often nicknamed the "Saint-Tropez of Corsica". Between sea and mountains, vineyards and dream beaches, this elegant little port above all wins all the votes for an idyllic holiday on the Isle of Beauty.
Known as one of the most popular destinations in all of Corsica, Saint-Florent is one of those little corners of paradise adored by connoisseurs. Although the village's population increases sharply during the summer period, it is a popular destination all year round, thanks to its pleasant setting and sunny weather. Just half an hour from Bastia, in the heart of one of the most stunning gulfs in the Mediterranean, Saint-Florent is an ancient Roman city that can be easily visited on foot. To capture its essence, take the time to stroll and banter along its old streets full of history. Take the pulse of Saint-Florent by lingering in Place des Portes to watch endless games of pétanque, head to Piazza Posta to see its frog fountain, and the church of Sainte-Anne. Nestling in the heart of the city's pedestrian centre, it has a large 18th-century square bell tower. Pass by the 12th century cathedral, and the 15th century Citadel which dominates the whole village; so, from the heights of the Citadel, a breathtaking panorama of the entire bay of Saint-Florent and the Desert des Agriates awaits you. If the visit is worthwhile at sunrise to savour the soft light and misty calm that caress the city, by day you will be surprised by the splendour of the contrasts on the sea, and at nightfall, it is the magnificence of the colours of the sky drowning in the sea that will fill your eyes with stars.
After visiting the town, go down to the quays of its port: located in the middle of the village, the port is its beating heart, where all the life and activity of Saint-Florent is concentrated. It's the ideal place to go shopping, stroll at the end of the day, have a drink and sit on the terrace to enjoy delicious little specialities from Haute-Corse. Lonzu, figatellu, coppa, prisuttu, brocciu fritters, cabrettu, fiadone, herb tarts, canistrelli, jams with seasonal fruit, Corsican honey, nougat, chestnut flour cakes... So many cold meats, cheeses, desserts and other little delicacies that will delight the taste buds of young and old alike.
But if there is one thing in Saint-Florent that everyone will agree on (after hiking the Wine Route, of course), it is its beaches. Bordered by fragrant maquis, the beaches of the Gulf of Saint-Florent are among the most beautiful in Corsica. Accessible via the customs officers' path, in a few minutes' walk or by shuttle bus from the port, the beaches of Saint-Florent are each more beautiful than the next. From the family beach of La Roya (close to the town centre) to the beach of Olozo, the beaches of Ospédale, La Crique, the beach of Loto and the paradisiacal beach of Saleccia, it is all the magnificence of this little corner of paradise that will be offered to you. In addition to lazing around and swimming, you can go scuba diving, jet-skiing, kayaking, windsurfing, rent boats to discover the coast, water skiing, canyoning, paragliding, horse-riding on the seafront, quad biking in the mountains along the coast or even mountain biking and buggying... In short, it's impossible to get bored in Saint-Florent!
