Situated on the edge of the Champsaur valley, Orcières is a commune of the Hautes-Alpes department. It is bordered by the Grand Pinier, the Black Drac Valley and the Valgaudemar. It is home to the ski resort of Orcières Merlette 1850, which totals no less than 100 km of marked trails. The resort has facilities worthy of the biggest winter sports destinations, including a slalom track, two downhill slopes and a snowpark.
The embedded reliefs contain some treasures, like Prapic, one of the most beautiful villages of the region. Dominated by the bell tower of the Sainte-Anne church, this village is accessible via the Tourettes and the Terres Blanches passes. The sun-dried stones reflect the rays of the day star on the flanks of this legendary mountain. Prapic is one of the access points to the Ecrins National Park.
This protected natural area is structured around 7 valleys : the Briançonnais, the Vallouise, the Embrunais, the Champsaur, the Valgeudemar, the Valbonnais and the Oisans. There are many plant and animal species : pines, spruces, junipers, buttercups, chamois, ermine, ibex, vultures, royal eagles... The hand of man has also helped to shape these spaces and to make the best to give life to the most prominent leisure activities. Thus, Orcières has become a mountain bike area with 8 tracks alternating jumps, bumps and tight turns, as well as a Bike Park.
Back at the resort, the sports complex based in the center of Orcières Merlette 1850 offers many attractions. On the program : a swimming pool, a water slide, an outdoor solarium with mountain views, an ice rink, a fitness area, a bowling alley and a cinema. It is the ideal place to spend a good time with family, sunbathe in the sun or even to occupy an end of afternoon after a grueling day passed on the tracks.

Good walks, for those who don't ski.... especially during the Covid period, when there are no ski lifts... If you take the road to Champoléon : very good walk at the bottom of the valley (beautiful waterfalls and scree) and especially accessible to all (it's flat).

If you want to go on a snowmobile trip, I advise you to do it at dawn to be able to enjoy the magnificent spectacle of the sunrise ! A pure delight.

We went to the restaurants "La Potinière" and "L'Endroit": we were very satisfied! Also: we went snowmobiling with Anthony who is at the snow front of Les Flpeaux, a small structure so warm welcome and very very very nice!

The "Family Pass" allows unlimited access to the swimming pool and ice rink. We spent a good time with the family at Le Creuset Park seeing reindeer, ibex and feeding marmots and goats (despite the negative criticism we had seen on this park)... To do: the lakes walk, the super zip line, a walk to Prapic to the waterfall..... Everything was fantastic and very beautiful. And also: funny experience with the children at the leisure centre at the bottom of Orcières: 25 euros for 5 sessions of 10 minutes to enter a bubble that floats on the water... If it rains, there are things to do: cinema, ice rink, swimming pool, bowling alley within walking distance.
