The village of Besse is located in the department of Isère, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Located 7 kilometres above the Chambon dam, the village spreads out between 1228 and 3122 metres in altitude, with a village at 1450 metres high. A quiet rural community, it is home to less than 130 souls year-round, which means that this is the perfect place for an intimate holiday. A picturesque village, it has an architecture typical of the region's landscape, with old stone houses, small wooden balconies and splendid lauze roofs. It is not for nothing that the civil heritage of the commune is registered with the Bâtiments de France! Here, therefore, it is charm and authenticity that prevail, you will not find any flashy modern construction or large impersonal tourist center. And that's why we love Besse so much! Unique destination in Oisan, Besse is classified among the "Sites and Remarkable Cities of France", so there is no doubt that lovers of old stones will love wandering along its ancient streets paved with cobblestones, and adorned with squat houses that tell the ancient history of the village.

But the pearl of the village, the one that attracts the eyes of all souls passing through its walls, is obviously the plateau of Emparis. Classified as a Natura 2000 site, this marvellous site unfolds 2900 hectares of protected valleys, perched on a natural balcony at an altitude of 2200 metres. In addition to its stunning beauty, this plateau is known for its unforgettable views of the Meije and Arves peaks, the Écrins massif and the Sarenne glacier, offering lucky hikers unforgettable views of some of the most beautiful peaks in the Alps. If in winter it is a delight for sportsmen, in the summer it becomes one of the largest alpine pastures in Europe, a huge playground for the herds of cattle and sheep which are found there in large numbers. Rich in wildlife and flora, the plateau is home to several sumptuous lakes, including the Lac Noir and Lac Lérié, both of which are breathtakingly beautiful with La Meije in the background. You can discover them thanks to a network of hiking trails for all tastes and all levels of walking (the GR 54, the GR 50)... In addition to walking, you can discover Besse and its surroundings by mountain bike, on horseback, or opt for an incredible discovery of the town and the Ecrins National Park by paragliding, without forgetting ski touring, snowshoeing during the winter period, or even skiing sessions at the neighbouring resort of Les Deux Alpes... So many activities that are sure to delight the whole family!
