North of La Turballe, Piriac-sur-Mer is both a dynamic seaside resort and a picturesque fishing port well known to artists. That we share Honoré de Balzac, Alphonse de Châteaubriant, Gustave Flaubert, Alphonse Daudet and Émile Zola, if not their same passion for writing? Certainly their love for the pretty seaside resort of Piriac-sur-Mer. A refugee in this small seaside village on the advice of Daudet in order to get away from the controversy created by the release of his work "L'Assommoir", Émile Zola came to settle down at Castel Marie, on the Place de l'Église. Inspired by his delicacies and local iodine flavours, he wrote a short story entitled "Les Coquillages de M. Chabre" and even called Piriac "a piece of Brittany that reminds us of Provence to no one's knowledge". Few writers have been able to resist the incomparable charms of Piriac-sur-Mer, and by visiting it, you will easily understand why. Attracting visitors from all over France every year, Piriac-sur-Mer, cradled by more than 6000 years of history, invites you to discover its heritage, both natural and architectural. Its heart of a village made of winding cobbled streets and beautiful flowered squares shelters beautiful granite houses built for some more than 300 years ago. The rue de Keroman in particular is an absolute must see: a shopping street, it is very lively and perfectly reflects the soul of Piriac-sur-Mer. The rue du Corps de Garde in the city centre will offer you an incomparable view of the sea, Île Dumet and the neighbouring beaches of Pénestin. With the whims of hollyhocks and hydrangeas, you will discover the many faces of this "City of Character", and finally, after having taken the time to discover its every nook and cranny, let it reveal its coasts shaped by the tireless whims of the ocean.
In all, there are 11 kilometres of coastline divided into beaches, ports, coves and cliffs that you can admire during your stay in Piriac-sur-Mer. From the city centre to the "Plage du Lérat", the customs path (also known as the coastal path) offers you beautiful views of the coves that dot the piriac coast and many of its most important points of interest, such as the pointe du Castelli. Known for its "Grotte à Madame", this splendid site is one of the most impressive in Piriac-sur-Mer and will allow you to distinguish, on a clear day, the Pointe du Croisic and Saint-Gildas de Rhuys, as well as the islands of Hoëdic and Houat. On the way, you will also cross the road of the rock called "Tombeau d'Almanzor": very famous on the Guérande Peninsula, this rock surrounded by legends would shelter the remains of the Lord of Lauvergnac, whose ship sank on the reefs of the piriac coast after a violent storm. Pointe de la Croix is also worth a visit for its breathtaking views of the neighbouring islands, but also the bay of Pont Mahé and its oyster beds, as well as the mouth of the Vilaine.
As for swimming, the coast of Piriac-sur-Mer offers you a wide choice of places to swim in peace in transparent waters worthy of the most beautiful paradise islands. The main beach of the seaside resort is "Plage Saint-Michel": to the southwest of the port, this family beach has a children's club, a diving club and access for people with reduced mobility. On the "Plage du Port-Boucher" side, water sports enthusiasts will be able to enjoy a wide range of water sports, from flyboarding to towed buoys, jet-skiing and kayaking to Dumet Island (nicknamed Treasure Island), and sailing excursions. At low tide, you can finally discover many small isolated coves, perfect for long relaxing sessions such as the "Plage de Lérat", famous for its white sand, its southern orientation and its absolutely magnificent turquoise water.
