Here, in the heart of this former county castle, you will discover the remains of a fortified wall, as well as cobbled streets lined with high middle-class houses from the 15th and 16th centuries, which tell the story of the village with their old stones, which once saw gunsmiths, locksmiths and weavers. The alleys are full of history and climb relentlessly towards the jewel of Saint-Bonnet-le-Château: its Collegiate Church. The Collegiate Church of Saint-Bonnet-le-Château is open to the public during the holidays and has been listed as a historical monument since 1922. Built at the beginning of the 15th century, it reveals in its lower chapel original wall paintings, as well as many treasures of the medieval period. Its ancient library, its mummy vault and its frescoes make it a must-see! The little extra thing about Saint-Bonnet-le-Château? The town, nestled in the heart of the Monts du Forez, is the historical cradle of the "OBUT" petanque ball appreciated by connoisseurs.
