Former commune now attached to Massegros Causses Gorges, Saint-Georges-de-Lévéjac, is the sweetness of life itself. In the department of Lozère, this charming village is the ideal place to stay for those who dream of calm and green holidays.

Spread out at the same time on the gorges of the Tarn and the causse of Sauveterre, Saint-Georges-de-Lévéjac is made up of a whole string of hamlets, staggered between 400 and more than 1000 meters of altitude. At its lowest point, the lovers of white water activities and hiking will be able to enjoy breathtaking panoramas on the cirque of Baumes and the gorges of Tarn. Along the gorges, on the side of the cliff, the old houses have blossomed in the middle of the vegetation, creating a rather surprising postcard of the village, as if frozen in time. A former religious village, Saint-Georges-de-Lévéjac was once home to a congregation of nuns, the Sisters of the Sacred Heart, as evidenced by an old convent located just at the entrance to the village. If the church of the Sacred Heart located in the hamlet of Piguière is worth a visit, so is the one in the heart of the village of Saint-Georges.

If the architectural heritage is quickly discovered, the major asset of Saint-Georges-de-Lévéjac remains its setting, and its particularly generous nature. If there is a must to do, it is to take courage to climb up to the top of the Point Sublime: perched at 870 meters high, this site located in the middle of the Causse de Sauveterre is a belvedere among the most known of the whole region, in particular of the gorges of the Tarn. Located in overhang of the gorges, where the Tarn of its meanders draws a right angle bend in the middle of the rocks, this unique point of view will fill with wonder the hikers, but also the photographers because the landscapes are absolutely marvellous there, as well in the early morning when the black vultures and the griffon vultures fly high in the sky as when the sun sets on the Cirque des Baumes, the Détroits and the Pas de Soucy, and that the valleys tint of their astonishing warm colors! After this sporty but still relatively accessible hike through picturesque landscapes, take the time to visit the Grotte des Baumes Chaudes, or a mountain bike ride through the hilly massifs surrounding Saint-Georges-de-Lévéjac (especially on the side of Roc de la Truque). Adrenaline junkies can opt for a bungee jump in the heart of the Cirque des Baumes on the Tarn, while lovers of more tranquil walks can make beautiful excursions in canoes or kayaks on the Tarn, in the direction of neighboring villages or the Aveyron located just a few steps from the village. For a sporty, contemplative holiday, but which is sure to put glitter in the eyes of the whole family!
