A seaside resort with a thousand faces, Pénestin, in the Morbihan region, offers visitors who love the great outdoors and holidays at sea more than 25 kilometres of coastline and many walking paths. The southernmost commune of Morbihan, situated at the mouth of the Vilaine between the Regional Natural Park of Brière and the Gulf of Morbihan, Pénestin perfectly combines the authenticity, dynamism and natural charm of the Breton seaside resorts, thus becoming the preferred destination of many holidaymakers each year.
Belonging to the peninsula of Guérande, Penestin is a charming city with many assets. But do you know what captivates the hearts of holidaymakers venturing into Penestin ? These are her beaches. Its 12 magnificent beaches and its heavenly coves, where calm and silence reign as masters. On the agenda ? Fishing on foot on the "crique du Halguen" where you can find hulls and clams, but also tanning sessions, idleness, swimming and water sports for the whole family. Numerous activities are thus carried out along the coastline of Penestin. The "Plage du Poundrantais" is one of the beaches with the most water sports. Kayaking, sailing, optimist, funboat training, catamaran rental, windsurfing, paddle or water walking, there will be something for everyone. The beaches of Pénestin are very popular with holidaymakers during the summer, but they remain pleasant and it is relatively easy to find a quiet place to spend a good time. To the north, the beaches of the Vilaine estuary attract nature lovers and wild beaches, sometimes for swimming, fishing or picnics by the sea. The "Plage du Palandrin", the last beach in Morbihan before the Loire-Atlantique, is ideal for the family afternoons because of its fine sand, peaceful environment and gentle slope. The beaches "de Loscolo" and "du Maresclé" are added to the list of family beaches of the resort, where young and old can swim and make sand castles in peace. The "Plage de la Mine d'Or" is the most popular beach in Penestin : 2 kilometres long, it is adored for its cliff with ochre reflections where walkers come for a walk to enjoy superb views of the city and the coast. It is also the happiness of paragliders since it is the only site in Morbihan where paragliding is allowed. We advise you to walk there at sunset, when the cliffs are adorned with a magnificent orange light. From the beach, walkers can take the customs trail for a walk along the coastline of the municipality, to discover the hidden coves and the beauty of the coast for more than 15 kilometers. From the Pointe du Bile, famous for being a good birdwatching spot, fishing enthusiasts on foot will be able to return during high tides with their baskets full of shrimps, periwinkles, oysters and mussels. Indeed, the Bouchot mussel and the jewel of Penestine gastronomy : so, at low tide, it is not rare to see the Bouchot fields extending as far as the eye can see in the middle of the landscape. Established from the 19th century in the pure and oxygenated waters of the Vilaine estuary, each year they produce shellfish renowned for their quality. Mussel farming being the most important sector of activity in Penestin, it will be easy for you to find a sign where you can taste these delicious mussels, accompanied by chips of course, all facing the sea : a perfect holiday postcard.
Crossed by a myriad of hiking trails bordering the sea or crossing its woods and marshes, Pénestin is a delight for walkers. In all, 50 kilometres of marked paths will allow you to discover the secrets of this green seaside resort, through more than 2000 hectares of preserved landscapes. Cycling enthusiasts will also be able to take advantage of several routes laid out throughout the city, from the town to the port via all the beaches of Penestin.
