In Languedoc-Roussillon, there is first of all the call of the sea. With more than 200 kilometers of beaches, the Mediterranean coastline offers a vast space for relaxation and leisure. On the agenda: lazing on the warm sand, sailing, jet-skiing, windsurfing in Leucate or Le Barcarès, diving along the Côte Vermeille, boat trips to the Costa Brava... but also long moments of relaxation in one of the many thalassotherapy centers (Cap-d'Agde, Port-Camargue...). In the hinterland, the beautiful hills and high plateaus are a real invitation to hiking, mountain biking, climbing, hang gliding... In the gorges of the Aude, Orb, Tarn and in the Pyrenean torrents, canoe, kayak or rafting enthusiasts will have fun in an extraordinary environment.
An original way to discover the Languedoc-Roussillon is to take the Canal du Midi. By boat, or on foot and by bike on the towpath, you will discover one of the most beautiful waterways in France, classified as a Unesco World Heritage Site and full of exceptional engineering structures. On the way, stop to admire the medieval city of Carcassonne, its magnificent ramparts and its castle, go on an excursion to visit some Cathar castles (Villerouge-Termenes, Termes...), appreciate, in Narbonne, the former palace of the Archbishops, today transformed into an archeological museum, and, in Béziers, the astonishing locks of Fonserannes.
A few kilometers from Montpellier, do not miss the magical site of Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, one of the most beautiful villages in France. In a sumptuous and wild setting, you will be conquered by this medieval city and by its abbey, a true jewel of the Romanesque art of Languedoc. But many other sites deserve special attention: the Pont du Gard, the Palace of the Kings of Majorca in Perpignan, Collioure and its royal castle, the animal parks of Lozère, the observatory of Mont-Aigoual... Take advantage of all these excursions to taste the sunny cuisine of Languedoc-Roussillon: clams, oysters, Bouzigues mussels, tielle, picholine, Cévennes pelardon, Causses blue cheese and the famous wines of the region: Fitou, Corbières, Banyuls, Maury...
