About thirty minutes from the Spanish border and the superb golden beaches of San Sebastian, Ciboure unfolds poetically along the Atlantic Ocean four fine sandy beaches, magnificent and absolutely ideal for all desires. Are you a fishing or surfing enthusiast, or are you more into lazing around? There is something for everyone. The Dériveurs beach will conquer the heart of vacationers who love water sports since it is entirely reserved for the practice of activities such as jet-skiing, canoeing, sailing, catamaran, surfing or towed buoys. Swimming is forbidden, so you can enjoy these activities in complete safety, whether you are a novice or a fan of these adrenaline-boosting disciplines. The beach of Socoa is a beautiful stretch of fine sand protected by several dykes. Its turquoise and crystalline water is calm, ideal for families and moments of relaxation. Next to it, you will find the Plage du Carré: its beautiful stretch of sand offers a superb view of Saint-Jean-de-Luz as well as the seaside resort and the Socoa fort. Not very frequented, it is ideal for moments of idleness. Finally, the Plage du Port is a small stretch of sand barely 50 meters long, close to the city center: easy and quick to access from the shops, it will be perfect for those irresistible swimming desires.
Ciboure being a dynamic city, you will be able to practice many activities in addition to the nautical activities previously mentioned, going from diving to golf, fishing in the sea and parasailing.
In order to appreciate the beauty of Ciboure, take the time to walk along its traditional fishing harbor, and get lost in its picturesque streets. Most of the houses are lined with the region's typical richly decorated wooden facades, painted in red and white. Make a stopover at 27 Quai Ravel, on the left bank of the Nivelle: in place of the current Tourist Office, overlooking the marina, was once the home of Maurice Ravel, the famous composer to whom we owe the famous Bolero. This Flemish style house is rich in history since it also welcomed Cardinal Mazarin, during the marriage of Louis XIV. Walk along the narrow streets of the city center and take the Evariste Baignol street to admire its beautiful listed houses with red and green shutters. Finally, the Agorrete street will lead you straight to the Bordagain hill, from which you will be able to appreciate an exceptional panorama on the coast, the bay of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, the Three Crowns massif and the Rhune, the mythical mountain of the Basque Country.
Finally, don't leave without having walked the aisles of the lively market in Ciboure on Sunday mornings: go and meet the local producers to discover the flavors of the land. Espelette peppers, Basque cake, ewe's milk cheese, seafood, Basque ham, and black cherry jam are sure to whet your appetite!
