Sainte-Suzanne is THE destination to see on the north coast of Reunion Island. With a rich and ancient history, the commune of Sainte-Suzanne is one of the three first districts of Reunion Island, along with Saint-Denis and Saint-Paul. In the past, the village lived from the cultivation of coffee, vines, tobacco, rice and cotton, not forgetting vanilla. Today, Sainte-Suzanne lives mainly from tourism and the cultivation of sugar cane. Here, it is so easy to feel at home; the village is welcoming, magnificent, made of beautiful colored houses with original architecture and decorated roofs. In terms of architecture, if there is one site that is inseparable from the history of Sainte-Suzanne, it is its lighthouse. The Bel-Air lighthouse, built in 1845, has the privilege of being the only lighthouse on Reunion Island. Listed as a historical monument, it now houses temporary exhibitions by local artists, and is worth a visit both for its works of art and for the breathtaking views it affords over the bay. The other must-see when visiting Sainte-Suzanne is its fairground market. With nearly fifty stalls installed on the Bocage side, it is the perfect place for a delicious dive into the heart of the island's flavours. On the menu? Tasting of Creole specialities, chouchous, pineapples, bananas, fruits, vegetables and spices perfect for concocting tasty little dishes. You will also be able to buy woven bags made of vacoas, and other things to spoil your friends and family.

"Le Bocage" is the Bocage Lucet Langenier, well known to sportsmen and women; it has a superb lake, playgrounds and picnic areas, a football stadium, tennis courts, a swimming pool, skateboard ramps and an athletics track. You can opt for a canoe, kayak or boat ride on the beautiful St. Suzanne River, or you can head to the Niagara Falls. Ah, the Niagara waterfall... It is without a doubt one of the most beautiful in the area. You can also reach it from Quartier-Français, via the Hauts de Sainte-Suzanne tourist route which will take you through the Dugain family forest to finish at the foot of the waterfall. Another walk is really worth the detour in Sainte-Suzanne: that of the Délices waterfall. Still on the heights of the French Quarter, close to the Vivienne church, this freshwater site is a real postcard in itself, with its 4-metre high waterfall overhanging a splendid basin, surrounded by badamiers, bamboos and jackfruit trees.

Finally, after visiting the vanilla plantation of the Domaine du Grand Hazier, the alleys decorated with mangosteen and nutmeg, the Bassin Bœuf (perfect for canyoning), think of a little stroll by the sea! Relaxing under the sun, swimming and water activities will complete your stay in Reunion Island!
