Backing Mont Faron, at an altitude of 542 metres, Toulon opens onto its legendary and famous harbour. First war port on the Mediterranean, Toulon is also a large marina, where holidaymakers from all over the world embark on a journey towards Porquerolles, Sardinia and Corsica. To visit the harbour, nothing beats a commented outing to the sea! During this memorable excursion, you will discover the fortifications, the defence system, the Fort of Balaguier, the marine cemetery, the Fort Saint-Louis, the Royal Tower, the military port and many other major sites in the bay of Toulon, from the Giens peninsula to the Tamaris ledge, via the Saint-Mandrier peninsula and La Seyne-sur-Mer. For a unique panoramic view of the harbor of Toulon, we can only recommend that you go to the very top of Mont Faron. Easily accessible in 6 minutes by cable car from Boulevard Amiral Vence (or by a winding road that will delight cyclists), Mont Faron offers from its highest point a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire city and its harbour, voted "Europe's Most Beautiful Rade", as amazing by day as by night when illuminated by the glow of the almost sleepy city. As for hiking, if you like walking, Toulon will be able to satisfy all your desires. The Customs Path that links the Royal Tower to Cap Brun will amaze you: this 1h30 round trip trail is accessible to everyone and will allow you to enjoy magnificent views of the Toulon coast. The "Architecture Route of the 20th Century", the "Panoramic Walk", the "Geological Walk" or the "Wonderful Corniche" trails are also highly recommended for walks to discover the wonderful sites that surround Toulon.
Port city but not that, Toulon is a city of contrasts, which will surprise you by the authenticity of its old city, all that is most picturesque: with its lively and colourful market, its 200 old fountains (that of the Old Palace on Place Lambert, that of the Five Parts of the World on Place Monsenergue, that of the Basket...) and its flowered streets, it is a place where you can stroll, discover its heritage and local flavours. Pass by the Cours Lafayette market to taste a delicious Cade, a local speciality par excellence, then visit the Maison de la Photographie, the Hôtel des Arts, the Musée National de la Marine, the Mémorial du Débarquement en Provence, take the small train and visit the medieval district around Sainte-Marie-de-la-Seds cathedral. The Capuchin Passage sculpture boat, the Square Tower, Place de la Liberté and Place Puget, the old rope works, the monumental gate of the former Jesuit seminary or the carré du Port are added to your list of visits during your stay in Toulon.
Finally, how can we talk about Toulon without mentioning its magnificent beaches? Located in the large Mourillon district (extremely popular with holidaymakers), these beaches, awarded the famous "Pavillon Bleu", are particularly pleasant. Magaud Cove and its pebbles at the foot of the cliffs, Mourillon beach and its landscaped gardens, Cap Brun cove, Mitre beach or Lido and Pipady beaches will be ideal for both relaxing breaks and swimming. Toulon is a very pleasant city, where it is nice to walk around the port. There are good restaurants and a unique Provençal market.
