Located on the Côte de Lumière, the Vendée commune of Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie is a seaside resort full of charm born of the fusion of two cities bordering the mouth of the river called "La Vie". Since the 1980s, it has developed its tourist service until it becomes an ideal destination for discovering the Vendée coast. Fishing, the main activity of the municipality for centuries, is highlighted on many monuments. Specialized in sardines, the fishing port was joined by a marina during the 1970s.
The Fisherman's House has reconstituted for twenty years the life of a family of sailors of a century ago. In a house dating from 1913, find a collection of furniture and period clothes to better know the history of fishing in Saint-Gilles. Another key monument to the maritime life of the commune, the Tour Josephine takes its name from the French Empress Joséphine de Beauharnais. Built around 1850 at the request of several captains, it served as a lighthouse for sailors. It is said in Saint-Gilles that tradition meant that the newlyweds should make a round at the foot of the building in order to bring happiness for the future.
Water sports are a central attraction of the municipality. Indeed, are found on its four beaches schools of surfing, sailing and boat and a nautical center that offers training and placements in several sports activities. If you are passionate about fishing or if you simply want to enjoy a peaceful stroll in the sea take the aboard the Mephisto IV, a former longline fishing boat built since 2007 for pleasure and recreational fishing.
Saint-Gilles Gourmet Meeting, the Crêperie Reef, in front of the Boisvinet beach, allows you to taste tasty dishes while enjoying a beautiful view of the ocean. On the menu : pancakes and pancakes of course but not that !... it also proposes fish cooked à la plancha and sauerkraut of the seas which is unanimous.
Once night falls, Cabaret l'Entracte welcomes you for unforgettable evenings. Cyril, his young owner, shares his passion for the entertainment and entertainment world. On the program, performances varied between music and humor in a setting worthy of the great Parisian cabarets.

The beach is very pleasant, just don't stay close to the access. A very good restaurant that I recommend: the pizzeria-bar-restaurant "Le Plein Sud" (next to the embankment "Chez Valérie" - which I don't recommend though), very warm welcome, fast and good service.
