Saint-Jean-de-Monts is a seaside resort bathed by the Atlantic Ocean, on the Côte de Lumière. She affirms with nerve and not without a certain pride her Vendée character. The coastline is a sophisticated assemblage of pine strands, dunes with a slender silhouette, beaches and rocks sculpted by erosion.
This characteristic tourist site has a beach more than 8 km long, one of the largest in the area. Practicing fishing on foot is a breeze in this area where shellfish and crustaceans are found by dozens from the rocks or in the sand. A good plan for those who want to savor fresh seafood. But be careful, it is better to know what you pick up so as not to risk food poisoning ! The less adventurous will prefer to sit comfortably on the terrace or in the well-heated room of one of the innumerable restaurants of the historic center.
A visit to the Océabul aquatic center will enhance your stay. Difficult to resist the appeal of this water park which has a panoramic view of the ocean. The older ones will prefer to relax in the sauna / steam room or in the balneotherapy pool while the toddlers will enjoy themselves in the playground or the artificial lagoon.
Golf, tennis, archery, schooner or trimaran : these are not the activities that are lacking more generally. If you are planning a trip to Saint-Jean-de-Monts, you can also plan a day in the heart of the Marais Breton Vendéen. This natural site of striking beauty has millennial origins. Here are the famous "bourrines", low houses with thatched roof that recall the life of yesteryear. Most of these traditional dwellings have now become secondary residences but they have lost nothing of their charm. The ecomuseum of the marsh, the Daviaud, tells the history of the swamp.

Very popular restaurant in Saint Gilles croix de vie at about 15kms. It is the restaurant OSE. Olivier and Katia treat us with tasty, fine dishes cooked with fresh local products. Another good plan just next to the location: The creperie/glacier/bar le Colibri is made for the gourmets!

Covid obliges, no restaurant to suggest, but the village of St Jean de Monts is very lively, with daily market and in front of the market, a very good pastry shop !

An excellent restaurant, both for the quality of the cuisine and the friendliness of the staff: "L'Espadon" located in Saint Jean de Monts. A very pleasant day trip to the island of Yeu. And, without tiring, walks in the dunes, on the beaches, swimming, fishing on foot at low tide, observation of the fauna and flora, the undergrowth when we need shade, the markets where the fresh products are of quality ... In short, a beautiful place where we will surely return in a few years.
