The Vosges is a land of medium mountains with rounded and wooded reliefs. Between hiking, cycling and other outdoor activities in the summer, skiing and snowshoeing in the winter, thermalism, gastronomy and heritage discoveries throughout the year, your holidays will be placed under the sign of relaxation and rejuvenation.
In the heart of soft green landscapes, the main towns of the Vosges invite you to discover their rich heritage. In Épinal, let yourself be seduced by the historic district, true cradle of the city. In its heart, you can admire the Gothic Basilica of Saint Maurice, built in the thirteenth century, and the castle whose magnificent park is accessible via an architectural curiosity : "The Chinese Tower" (erected at the beginning of the 19th century and recently restored). But also enjoy the Roman House and visit the City of the Image which reminds the importance of imagery in the development of the city. In Saint-Dié-des-Vosges, admire the cathedral, built in pink sandstone, the Celtic camp of La Bure and the Claude and Duval factory whose buildings were designed by Le Corbusier.
After these city escapades, continue your exploration of the Vosges by discovering its innumerable natural sites and its many small cities of character. In particular, explore the Route des Crêtes, the Lakes Valley and climb to the top of the Grand Ballon. Then go to Remiremont to admire its fabulous abbey district, to Gérardmer for the beauty of its lake, to Domrémy-la-Pucelle to visit Joan of Arc's birthplace. Also visit the ancient copper mines of the Dukes of Lorraine near Le Thillot and attend a performance in the famous Théâtre du Peuple in Bussang. Finally, fall under the spell of Mirecourt, famous for its lace and lutherie.
With its vast preserved spaces, the Vosges also invites you to practice many outdoor activities. The walkers will be able to start on 4000 kilometres of marked out paths and the amateurs of bicycle will enjoy themselves on "the green way" of Hautes Vosges. For swimming and other water sports, head for the Saulxures sur Moselotte Lake leisure base. In winter, join the slopes of the Bresse resorts or treat yourself to a wellness break in one of the four spa towns in the department. And to complete your discovery of the Vosges, enjoy the products of its terroir : Munster-Géromé, andouille du Val d'Ajol, blueberry pie, fir honey...
