Ah, Milan, Milan... Who hasn't dreamed of walking your streets, oh splendid Milan... Capital of Lombardy and second largest city in Italy, this cosmopolitan and authentic economic and financial center vibrates with its superb monuments. To begin with, visit the Magenta and Sant'Ambrogio districts, the Ticinese district and the Navigli, then linger in the old town to contemplate the city's architectural heritage. The most emblematic of the city's monuments is certainly the Duomo, the Duomo of Milan: a true architectural masterpiece, this cathedral tells the story of more than six centuries of history, transcribed in its incredible light, its statues and the marble of Candoglia. Overlooking the whole city, this majestic site is worth a visit for the magnificence of its decorations and for the panoramic views it offers. Our advice: climb on its roof! Standing behind the thick row of gargoyles that surmount the cathedral, a monumental viewpoint awaits you on the whole of Milan: a must-do during your stay! But Milan is not just about the Duomo, far from it. The 15th century Castello Sforzesco (a fortress that today houses many works of art) is worth a visit, as is the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, Piazza della Scala and its legendary eponymous theater. Stroll along Via Vittorio Emanuele towards Piazza San Babila for a shopping break, and don't forget Via Torino, the oldest street in Milan. Among the most secret wonders of Mila is the church of San Maurizio al Monastero Maggiore: thanks to its wooden choir and its absolutely magnificent frescoes, it will conquer the hearts of art lovers. Another visit not to be missed? The Refectory of Santa Maria delle Grazie, which houses the Last Supper painted by Leonardo da Vinci; a monumental, majestic work that has fascinated art lovers and neophytes alike for centuries. Visit the Loggia dei Mercanti, pass by the columns of San Lorenzo to feel the pulse of the city on a summer evening, the San Siro stadium (for soccer fans!), and the Basilica of Sant'Ambrogio, known for housing the relic of St. Ambrose in its crypt, the city's patron saint.
It is impossible to understand the charm of Milan without living "Milanese style"! To do so, after having skimmed the numerous (and very numerous) clothing stores of the city, allow yourself an "Aperitivo" interlude: a very popular happy hour, it is the perfect opportunity to learn about local flavors. And there are many of them, because Milan is indeed famous for its gastronomic delights. Risotto alla milanese, ossobuco, mondeghili, prosciutto, panettone, gorgonzola, pizzas, Milanese cutlets, busecchina milanese, Panna Cotta, Caprese salad, tiramisu and other ice creams will make your taste buds travel.
