Alicante, a Spanish province in which the famous Costa Blanca extends, is a tourist paradise with a rich culture and a considerable historical heritage. If you are staying in the province, do not miss its capital : Alicante. This port metropolis of 320 000 inhabitants has everything to please. A city of history, the Roman and Muslim conquests have left their mark on its architectural heritage. At the top of Mount Benacantil, the Castle of Santa Barbara overlooks the Alicantine coastline. Imposing medieval fortress built during the 14th century, it was falling into ruins until its renovation and opening to the public in 1963. An exceptional view on the seaside and the port is revealed to those who dare to brave its heights. Inside the castle, MUSA (Museo de la Ciudad de Alicante) tells the origins of the city from its first inhabitants to prehistory. Alicante is also the capital of leisure. Among the many unusual activities to discover, one retains in particular the famous "escape games" which recently invaded the international metropolises. One of them ("Xcapate" - Calle Canónigo Manuel Penalva, 5 - 03013 Alacant) consists of solving a series of clues in order to escape from a room before the end of the time allowed. Several scenarios plunge you into the heart of an intrigue for an hour where your logic and those of your teammates are your only weapons.
Sea enthusiasts will prefer Torrevieja, a fishing port converted into a tourist resort nestled between the Mediterranean and two salt lakes. In the 19th century, this modest fishing village was expanded by the salt industry, which transformed it into a maritime city. Today, this tradition is still celebrated throughout the city. At the Museum of Salt and Sea, an exhibition of objects related to this industry pays tribute to the hard work of the sailors that allowed to develop Torrevieja. Every summer since 1955, the International Competition of habaneras and polyphony highlights the Havanese, these songs brought back by the sailors who returned from Cuba.
