On the popular Costa del Sol between the towns of Fuengirola and Torremolinos, the seaside resort of Benalmádena is the perfect place to pack your bags, as long as you are fond of holidays at the rhythm of the crystalline waves and the Spanish sun.
Benalmádena, with its pleasant climate and ideal geographical location in the south of Spain, attracts many holidaymakers every year in search of beautiful beaches to relax on. The most important seaside resort in the province of Malaga, it is very popular with families due to its numerous infrastructures but also thanks to its amusement parks, such as Selwo Marina, Sea Life or Tivoli. The town is divided into three urban centres with a clear identity : the village of Benalmádena, also known as "El Pueblo", is a typical Andalusian town centre, with small quiet squares to stroll in and narrow streets full of character. Perched on the heights of the commune, it is the ideal place for the stroll: you will be able to observe there in particular splendid panoramas on the littoral. "El Pueblo" is also the ideal place to sit down in peace and quiet, to discover all the richness of the local gastronomy. If there is one monument to visit in this district, it is the castle of "Colomares" : dedicated to Christopher Columbus, this imposing building with unique architecture is one of the most interesting sights of Benalmádena. The "Buddhist Stupa of Enlightenment" is also worth a visit: this Buddhist temple is one of the largest in Western Europe. Harboring a large statue of Buddha, it is recognizable by its high white and golden dome, visible from afar. The "Arroyo de la Miel" district concentrates most of the city's economic centres, but you will also find the famous "Club de Hielo" (ice rink) and the cable car that will take you to the summit of Mount Calamorro, the perfect place for hiking, cycling or horseback riding through the mountains. Benalmádena Costa is the most touristic core of the city because of its beaches, infrastructures, port, golf courses, hotels and casino Torrequebrada. On the stroll side, we advise you to follow the coastal path on which are three old watchtowers from which the landscapes are breathtaking.
During your stay, you can enjoy the many beaches along the Benalmádena coast. To the south of the surprising marina mixing Arabic, Andalusian and Indian styles (Puerto Deportivo), you will find the most tourist but also the most family beaches, bordered by a large pedestrian promenade. In the center of the resort, at the foot of the famous restaurant "El Embarcadero", the beaches of "Malibu", "Bonita" and "Arroyo Hondo" are very popular with holidaymakers because of their peaceful waters and protected from the winds. You'll also find something to eat there thanks to the numerous "chiringuitos", perfect for meals on the go with your feet in the water. On the border with Fuengirola, the beaches of "Carvajal" and "Tajo de la Soga" are two of the most beautiful beaches on the coast. The first is a lively and crowded beach, very lively and festive. You can jet-ski, pedal boat, surf and enjoy inflatable games. For night owls, many restaurants and clubs nearby are among the trendiest in the region. The second beach, "Tajo de la Soga", is much wilder and offers very few services. It will be rather intended for the holidaymakers in search of natural and intimate cocoon for moments of idleness. Hidden behind its palm trees, Playa La Viborilla is certainly one of the most beautiful beaches on the Benalmádena coast. Barely 100 metres long and bounded by cliffs, this hidden beach is a delight for scuba diving enthusiasts who can indulge in their favourite activity in an absolutely magnificent setting. With its air of paradisiac island nestled in the hollow of a luxuriant vegetation, it is also appreciated by families who take advantage of this peaceful oasis to bathe in its calm waters. Finally the beach of "Bil-Bil" is also worth seeing if you are passing through Benalmádena, not only because of its undeniable pleasant side, but especially thanks to its castle, the "Castle of Bil-Bil". In Arabic style, this building covered with red plaster and decorated with tiles is one of the most amazing buildings in the city. We advise you to observe it at night, when its gardens and fountains light up.
The castle of Colomares
The particular architecture of this castle, mixing Byzantine, Gothic and Moorish style, will not leave you indifferent. Built in honour of Christopher Columbus, this building is also a museum and has a sublime view of the Costa del Sol.<br />
The city of Mijas
About fifteen kilometres from Benalmadena, Mijas is located inland on a mountainside. All dressed in white, this village will prove to be a haven of peace and incomparable beauty.
