Port Leucate is a seaside resort of the department of Aude, in the Languedoc-Roussillon-Midi-Pyrenees region. More precisely, the locality is posted on the strip of land that separates the pond of Leucate from the Gulf of Lion.
Navigation is an art of living there : no less than two diving clubs are located close to the captaincy. Port-Leucate also has a yacht club and a fishing club that has made the big game fishing one of its specialties. Port Leucate has not lost its soul and perpetuates the tradition of farmer of the sea.
The shellfish harbor that extends south of Leucate-plage hosts oyster, mussel , Clams and even shrimp. You can enjoy local productions in the many restaurants in the center of Leucate, where it is pleasant to walk on summer evenings.
The village nestled at the foot of the Canigou is dominated by its castle. The Redoubt of the Haute Franqui is an imposing fortress built during the reign of Louis XIV. The view that it offers on the pond, the sea, then the Canigou and the chain of Albères is impregnable. These landscapes are incredibly pure. But does not Leucate come from the Greek "leukos" which means white ?
Aficionados of the great natural spaces will probably be tempted by a getaway to the Regional Natural Park of Narbonnaise. This natural reserve alternates sea and lagoons, sandy cords and small massifs. La Clape, Cap Romarin and the plateau of Leucate are bathed permanently with a golden light characteristic. Along the Canal de la Robine, surrounded by endless rows of pines, canes of Provence and vineyards, you will discover the variety of this ecosystem today protected.
