Bernières-sur-Mer is located in the Calvados region of Normandy. Between Arromanches-les-Bains and Ouistreham, in the heart of the D-Day beaches, Bernières-sur-Mer offers its visitors the opportunity to travel to the heart of Norman history and traditions. Are you tempted? Let's go !

On the Côte de Nacre, on the borders of the Caen plain and the Bessin, Bernières-sur-Mer is made up of two distinct parts, an old town farther from the coast, and a maritime part built after the Second World War. Considered as one of the oldest cities of the Côte de Nacre, Bernières-sur-Mer sees its history going back to very ancient times, in particular thanks to the discovery of stations and other instruments linked to the Stone, Bronze and Iron ages. From the Middle Ages, the commune has kept its church, classified as a Historic Monument and considered as one of the jewels of Basse-Normandie. With its 7 meters high altarpiece, and its 67 meters high bell tower which was used as a guide for boats, the church. Notre-Dame-de-la-Nativité, that's its name, will certainly impress you by its dimensions! In the village, other sites are worth a visit such as the 15th century Manor of Luzerne, the old train station, the old port, the 18th century Château de Quintefeuille, the 17th century Château de Semilly, or the Bernières train station.

But, if there is a sure thing in Bernières-sur-Seine, it is its beach. Known as Juno Beach, it is one of the main beaches of the Allied landing in Normandy on June 6, 1944. It is here that many Canadian soldiers trod the sand to liberate Bernières-sur-Mer and the rest of Europe, also, you can discover from that time the remains of the famous Atlantic Wall. On the beach of the Landing, as on the other beaches of Bernières-sur-Mer, you will have any leisure to bathe you, but also to practise nautical activities like the paddle or the sail! Our advice? Opt also for hiking, cycling or water sports sessions according to your wishes, to discover the precious beauty of the coast, its dunes, the hinterland of Bernières and its marshes! Classified as a National Nature Reserve since 1984, the Cliff of Cap Romain is a must for your stay: the smallest nature reserve in France at the time of its creation, it is worth a visit for its sponge fossils as well as for its 8-meter high cliff which dominates a sandy beach where you can relax under the sun. A perfect way to complete your stay in Normandy!
