On the banks of the English Channel, in the department of Calvados, is the very beautiful seaside resort of Courseulles-sur-Mer. Just 20 kilometres from Caen and its famous Memorial, Courseulles-sur-Mer has all the necessary information to make you spend a superb holiday in the heart of places steeped in history.

On the splendid Côte de Nacre, halfway between Arromanches-les-Bains and Ouistreham, Courseulles-sur-Mer offers more than 2 kilometres of fine sandy beaches along its coast. A haven of peace where life is resolutely pleasant, sunny and fun, the central beach of Courseulles-sur-Mer is bordered by a pleasant pedestrian walkway, where young and old alike enjoy strolling around with an ice cream in their hands at sunset. From the mouth of the Seulles to the racetrack, this long beach is more famous under the name of "Juno Beach", one of the most famous beaches of the D-Day Landings of June 6, 1944. Particularly family-friendly, it is the ideal place to bubble under the sun, swim, play beach volleyball or have sand castle competitions. The eastern beach, very wild, is only rarely visited, even in summer. Pleasant and quiet, it invites you to stroll away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. Finally, the beach of the Marina is more sporty: with its walking trails and its nautical centre, it is popular with water sports enthusiasts. You can go catamarans, sailing, water walking, sand yachting, dinghy sailing, surfing or paddling.

Undeniably marked forever by the D-Day landings, Courseulles-sur-Mer has many so-called "memory" places, which keep alive the memory of the soldiers who died for the liberation of France. The "Stèle de Gaulle", the "Stèle de la Combattante", the "Winnipeg" monument facing the sea, the Bold chariot and the Lorraine cross (memorial just beside the seaside) are part of the station's historical heritage. The latter has many perfect walking trails to discover the beauty of the Normandy coast, from Pointe du Hoc to Honfleur via Cabourg and Deauville. By bike you can also discover the surroundings of Courseulles-sur-Mer, via its coastal paths in particular, for a stroll along the landing beaches, from Sword Beach to Utah Beach, via Omaha Beach, Gold Beach and Juno Beach.

Finally, a holiday in Courseulles-sur-Mer is the promise of gourmet and tasty meals with delicate iodine flavours. Seafood lovers? The fish market that is held on the port should conquer your taste buds! In addition to fish dishes, you can opt for Caen-style tripe, andouille de Vire, teurgoule, camembert, Norman cutlets, an omelette from La Mère Poulard, seafood, milk jam, all this, drizzled with calvados or a good glass of Norman cider, a local pride loved by all.
