A small seaside village in Calvados, Grandcamp-Maisy is definitely an ideal holiday destination for family holidays. Picturesque fishing port nestled on the Normandy coast between the beaches of the department that are Omaha and Utah Beach, Grandcamp-Maisy will mark you by its historical, cultural and gourmet heritage.
Grandcamp-les-Bains and Maisy were originally two separate towns. If both were focused on seaside tourism and fishing, attracting many visitors each year, Grandcamp-les-Bains was much more touristic than its neighbour. Dear to many families and the high society of Paris during the Belle Époque, she saw Alexandre Dumas, Emile Zola or Georges Cain treading on its beautiful beaches of fine sand. It was not until 1972 that the cities finally merged to form a single commune, for the happiness of its inhabitants.
Marked by the Second World War in particular, Grandcamp-Maisy will plunge you into the heart of history. Thus, along the coast, many monuments and museums paying homage to the combatants mark out the territory : the Maison de la Libération, in Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer, the Musée du D-Day in Vierville-sur-Mer or the American Normandy cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer deserve the detour. Spread throughout the commune, the imposing and majestic manor houses, known as "farm-houses", are part of Grandcamp's rich architectural heritage. The farmhouses of La Tonnellerie and Vaumanoir in particular are not to be missed, as are the mills of Criqueville and Odo, witnesses to the importance of the cultivation of the land in Calvados. Stroll through the streets of the city in search of the seaside villas of the early 19th century : vast and situated by the sea, their colourful façades decorated with statues, mouldings, earthenware and wooden balconies give them a special charm.
Linger in the oyster beds to discover, on foot or during a carriage ride, the shellfish farm of the Baie des Veys, famous for producing a large number of oysters and mussels in the region. The gastronomic heritage of Grandcamp-Maisy is one of the most delicious: oysters, fresh fish and scallops are legion in the many remaining along the seafront and the port. And how to evoke this little corner of Calvados without talking about its apples, its ciders, its eaux-de-vie, its famous Isigny butter, its camemberts, its biscuits and its caramels ? Sure, your gastronomic getaways will be gourmet during your stay in Grandcamp-Maisy !
As for walks, there are many hiking routes in the Grandcamp-Maisy sector. The coastal path in particular, along the coast and the rocks of the commune will lead you to Isigny-sur-Mer. The "Circuit Historique" and the "Circuit de la Campagne", respectively 5 and 8 kilometres long, will allow you a perfect discovery of the commune. From the air, land or sea, the panoramas over the cliffs cutting out the sometimes heckling English Channel are absolutely magnificent. Between the coast, marshes and bocages, the landscapes of Grandcamp-Maisy and the territory of Isigny-Grandcamp will offer you multiple facets, which you will be able to discover at leisure during walks, horse riding, cycling or even kayaking. Solo, duo or group, we advise you to paddle to Pointe du Hoc to discover from a unique point of view the cliffs that were stormed by the Rangers in 1944. Today, the place is famous for hosting one of the largest seagull colonies in France.
The beach of the seaside resort is immense, especially at low tide. Bathed in light, it lies to the east of the city's marina. Ideal for long afternoons of family relaxation, it is also the scene of multiple sporting activities : dinghy, catamaran, windsurfing, water walking, kayaking or surfing, you will not know where to start. The grandcomaiseraise beach is a favourite playground for walking fishermen and is the ideal place for family outings, where young and old fishermen try to get their hands on the most beautiful specimens of shellfish and crustaceans.

Not to be missed: the fish market which takes place every day on the port. Fresh fish guaranteed at unbeatable prices! 5 euro per kilo of fish or 10 euro per 3 kg! We filled up before we leave!
