Between La Rochelle and Châtelaillon-Plage, the small seaside resort of Angoulins has everything to please holidaymakers looking for dynamic stays facing the sea.

Thanks to its privileged location on the Atlantic coast, just ten kilometres from downtown La Rochelle, Angoulins is a natural, authentic and preserved destination that will satisfy all your desires for the outdoors. Its name, Angoulins (also called Angoulins-sur-Mer) comes from its marshes, since in Gallic, "golenes" means "small pond". During the 20th century, the municipality lived mainly from the exploitation of its salt marshes, which were replaced by oyster marshes at the end of the 1950s, which have now become one of the main activities of the village. While walking around the resort, you can visit these marshes and discover the lock houses by the sea, in order to learn everything about these characteristic sites of Angoulins' history.

Wide open to the ocean, Angoulins has preserved from its past 19 squares by the sea as well as an emblematic port, that of Loiron, easily identifiable thanks to its beautiful fishermen's huts. It's so nice to stroll along its docks early in the morning at sunrise! Then head towards Pointe du Chay, located behind the marshes: more than 150 million years old, this limestone cliff, one of the most breathtaking sites in the whole seaside resort, offers incomparable views of the vastness of the ocean. During the day to observe the blue of the sea or at sunset to see the sky tinted with bright colours, this walk is a must for anyone staying in Angoulins. Pointe de la Welette and Pointe des Chirats are also perfect places for family outings, easily accessible thanks to hiking trails. We particularly recommend the "Between history and legends of Aunis" trail: thanks to 11 kilometres of signposted routes, you will become familiar with the history and landscapes of the Rochelais region. Bike enthusiasts? The Angouline coast is dotted with numerous cycle paths, perfect for discovering the beauty of the seaside and the whole seaside resort. You can also reach the beaches of Châtelaillon or La Rochelle in no time. Cultural and elegant, La Rochelle is an essential stopover for your holiday in Angoulins: to eat a cake facing the port, for a visit to its famous towers or for an evening to stroll along its quays, La Rochelle will surely satisfy you.

Finally, you will find two beaches in Angoulins, the main one being located on the Chay peninsula, not far from Pointe de la Belette. Both wild and family, Platère beach is at high tide a privileged place for swimming, but also for water sports. You can sail, catamaran, paddle, funboard, sea kayak to discover the splendours of the coast, dinghy, windsup, surfing, jet-ski... The other beach of Angoulins, the beach Saint-Jean des Sables, is more popular with fishermen.
