Well known to regulars, Rivedoux-Plage is the first town you will discover when you arrive on Île de Ré after crossing its mythical 3 km long bridge. A popular tourist resort for visitors, it offers wonderful ocean views and a wide range of activities for the whole family.

Rivedoux-Plage is one of the 10 municipalities on Île de Ré: bordered by the Pertuis Breton and Antioche rivers, just opposite La Rochelle, this elegant and relaxing family destination offers a charming setting for relaxing stays. Fascinated by nature, discovery and adventure? Don't wait any longer and get on your bike to discover the treasures of Rivedoux-Plage. First site to visit: the Redoubt of Sablanceaux. An old fortified town built by Vauban in 1674 on the Pointe de Sablanceaux, not far from the bridge that links the island to the mainland, it is one of the oldest monuments in Rivedoux. Built to protect the island and La Rochelle, which is close to the English invasions, this 45-metre wide square fort is now a place to visit, appreciated for its history and its beautiful views. Take your bike back to stroll along the lagoon, then walk through the narrow streets of this old fishing port to soak up its reassuring atmosphere. Discover the tidal mill, the church of Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes, the jetty, the fountain, and the famous Chauveau lighthouse: also built under the reign of Louis XIV opposite the foreshore of Rivedoux, this 30-metre high lighthouse is the only lighthouse in the Charente-Maritime Sea. For the little anecdote to tell when you return from your holiday, know that the lighthouses located in the open sea are called "Hell", subject to the torments of the waters and winds, when the lighthouses on the coast are called "Purgatories" and those on land "Paradise".

Starting point of all the cycle paths on Île de Ré, Rivedoux-Plage will allow you to discover in a few strokes of the pedals the most beautiful sites on the island, from its salt marshes to its wild and fragrant moors, passing through its villages, its woods and its magnificent beaches. In all, 110 kilometres of marked trails criss-cross the island, with its adapted mountain bike trails as well as those for Sunday cyclists. The "Circuit Vauban" in particular is one of the most popular: 36.6 kilometres long, it is both sporty and fun, and will allow you to discover the richness of the historical heritage of this idyllic little corner.

The town is bordered by two thick sandy strips where lovers of idleness and glide enthusiasts meet to share good sunny moments. On the north side, facing the Vendée, the white sand of Rivedoux is more privileged for its oyster farming parks that you can see at low tide, but also for its kitesurfing spots renowned in the area as well as for boating. Finally, to the south, facing the Isle of Aix and Fort Boyard, this is where you will find the best places to swim, surf, sail, jet-ski, bodyboard or even sail tank, and sunbathe in peace.

Restaurant "Chez Marie" at the Phare des Baleines: a must for us who visit it every time we come to the Ile de Ré. Also, restaurant "Saint Georges" at La Flotte: excellent meal. Superb walks on the dyke leading from the lighthouse to the village of Saint Clément as well as that of Le Martray. Walks in the marshes of Le Fier.

Rivedoux is well located: at the entrance of the island with the start of the cycle paths, very pleasant to ride.
