Ideally located north of La Rochelle, only a few cables from Ile de Ré, Ile d'Oléron and Ile d'Aix, L'Houmeau is a small town on the Charentais coast. Its small typical oyster farm port, its narrow streets and its opening to the sea make it an ideal place to pack your bags and discover the most beautiful treasures of Charente-Maritime.
With its picturesque port, narrow streets and whitewashed houses, L'Houmeau has that little something of the Ile de Ré, so charming and charming. Rich in a turbulent historical past, the Houmeau vibrates to the rhythm of its oyster farming port in which we advise you to stroll to soak up its so relaxing atmosphere. With its channel and wooden footbridge, the port of Le Plomb can be visited on foot or by bicycle. From a marked trail, you can walk along the shoreline and reach the high cliffs that offer a breathtaking view of the ocean, the Pertuis Breton and the entire coast.
Absolutely perfect to escape the world that is rushing towards the most popular beaches on the coast, L'Houmeau beach is only rarely visited. Composed entirely of pebbles, this beautiful beach overlooking the waters of Pampin Cove is very pleasant and offers beautiful views of the nearby Île de Ré. You will find a creperie, as well as two food-trucks to satisfy you during your idleness sessions.
Visitors, Houméens and Houméennes are used to travelling to La Rochelle to enjoy its pleasant port and its rich cultural heritage. During your visit to La Rochelle, only 5 kilometres from the city centre of Houmeau, you will have to visit its arcaded streets, its large private mansions, its pedestrian district and its Big Clock, but also the emblematic Tours of La Rochelle (the Tour Saint-Nicolas, the Tour de la Chaîne and the Tour de la Lanterne), proudly set up at the entrance to the Vieux Port.
To enjoy beautiful white sandy beaches, then it is on the neighbouring Île de Ré that you will have to go. Accessible from La Rochelle, Ile de Ré is a paradise for lovers of water sports and beautiful wild beaches as far as the eye can see. Equipped with bicycles, you can go around the island in search of these little paradisiacal places, perfect for putting down your towel and resting under the island sun. And there is plenty to do, with more than 100 kilometres of coastline, Ile de Ré has many magnificent places to discover, with family or friends. With children, we recommend the "Plage du Gros Jonc" and "Gollandières" beaches at Bois-Plage-en-Ré, the Dauphins beach at La Couarde, the Rivedoux beach at La Flotte, or the "Kit-Chemise" beach at Les Portes-en-Ré. The "Plage de la Combe à l'eau" will be perfect to isolate yourself from the world, when the Grenettes beach and the beaches of Petit-Bec and Lizay will delight water sports aficionados. On the island, you can practice many activities from surfing to windsurfing, scuba diving, kite-surfing, jet-skiing, paddle, sea kayaking and many others, including the "Plage des Prises", the magnificent "Conche des Baleines" and the "Plage des Folies". From La Rochelle, you can also go to the magnificent and precious Île d'Aix off Fouras-les-Bains (accessible from Pointe de la Fumée in 20 minutes by boat, after 60 kilometres by car from L'Houmeau), stop over in Oléron (1 hour's drive), and even take a boat or kayak tour of Fort Boyard !
