Next to Sarlat-la-Canéda, in the Périgord Noir, Les Eyzies de Tayac offers an ideal setting for a holiday under the sign of tranquillity, nature and culture. Between exceptional prehistoric sites, superb landscapes and gastronomic riches, you will inevitably fall under its charm.
World capital of prehistory, Les Eyzies de Tayac impresses by the number of its archaeological sites. Among those still open to the public, visit the Font-de-Gaume cave, the Combarelles cave and the Cro-Magnon shelter where the first fossil of our distant ancestor was discovered in 1868. Then discover the fabulous National Museum of Prehistory. In its beautiful Dordogne stone building, you can admire one of the most beautiful collections of Palaeolithic objects : carved stones and bones, furniture art, engravings, sculptures... To complete your journey through time, then go to Montignac to discover the "Sistine Chapel of Parietal Art" thanks to its perfect replica, recently opened : Lascaux 4.
But Les Eyzies de Tayac has many other surprises in store for you. Walking in the village, you will appreciate its troglodyte architecture so particular and its many medieval elements as the fortified church of Tayac, dating from the twelfth century. You will also be conquered by its exceptional natural environment where alternate green landscapes and cliffs overhanging the river. To enjoy this superb setting, hiking enthusiasts can set off on the 675 kilometres of marked trails that criss-cross the Vézère Valley. Other paths will allow you to discover it by mountain bike, on horseback and you can even follow the meanders of the river aboard a canoe.
Also take advantage of your holidays in Les Eyzies de Tayac to discover the other jewels of the Périgord Noir. Numerous restaurants in Les Eyzies, our favourite is the vegetarian restaurant "Okivi". Don't forget to go to Domme, visit of the caves and visit of the Bastide by little train, without forgetting the museum ... one address : the pancake factory "Des Idées à la Noix" ... and "Le Tourtalou", speciality of the restaurant to be discovered.
