A renowned port and seaside resort, Le Pouldu is pure Brittany. Housed in the unique setting of the eponymous cove where the Laïta river ends its course to join the clear waters of the ocean, this small, captivating and exciting village will delight the souls of artists and lovers of wild panoramas.
Confusing, seductive, Le Pouldu is one of those destinations that is hard to forget. Attached to the town of Clohars-Carnoët, 10 kilometres south of Quimperlé, 20 kilometres from Lorient and 30 minutes from the city of Concarneau, Le Pouldu is anchored by the Atlantic Ocean. Painted and depicted by many artists at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 21st century, Le Pouldu is one of the jewels of the painter Paul Gauguin who has honoured this small colourful port on many occasions. Since his boarding house, at Marie Henry's, the painter has sculpted and painted many works in the image of the Little Brittany girls in front of the sea, The Harvest of Brittany, or the Fields at Le Pouldu. To discover all the panoramas that captivated Gauguin and his painter friends from the school of Pont-Aven, Le Pouldu has a wonderful museum, the Maison-Musée du Pouldu, which looks back on the history of the great painter by reconstructing his stay in Brittany. From this museum, an itinerary is particularly recommended: that of the "chemin des peintres" (painters' path). Thanks to 15 interpretation panels spread throughout the town and along its coast, you will be able to discover all that through history inspired the artists passing through the small Breton port, admiring, in the early morning as well as at sunset, all the bright colours that made Le Pouldu so adored by the painters who came to find inspiration there. Impossible to visit Le Pouldu without stopping off at its port: anchored at the very bottom of the Laïta estuary, it is the perfect place to have a good time at nightfall, or to stroll on the terrace to admire the waves and the relief of the Morbihan.
Le Pouldu is also a real little paradise of peace and quiet for families who dream of swimming without having to suffer the crowds of the big seaside resorts. From the beach of Kérou, Bellangenêt or the beach of Grands Sables, you will find what you are looking for. The first one is a surf spot well known by surf aficionados who meet there in numbers as soon as the weather is fine to try to tame the waves that come to caress the coast. Bodyboarding, kitesurfing and paddle complete the range of activities on this beach, which is sporty and very popular with young people. The very family beach of Bellangenêt is known above all by the hikers who walk along the GR34, the famous walking path, which overlooks the magnificent creeks of Le Pouldu. History says that it was here that Gauguin came to seek inspiration, and it is easy to understand why when you take the time to admire the sunset on this wonderful beach! Supervised, equipped with beach volleyball nets, everything is there for perfect family afternoons. Finally, Grands Sables beach is the beating heart of Le Pouldu: a local star that has been famous since the sea bathing era in 1850, it is lined with villas that offer incredible views of the sea and the rocks which, at low tide, become a huge hunting ground for those who love to fish on foot. Surfing, fishing, painting, kayaking, hiking, gourmet tastings facing the sea, sunbathing and turquoise water: in short, everything is here for you to fall in love with Brittany!
