Facing the sea of Iroise, Plougonvelin is a family seaside resort, green and friendly. Marked by its authentic character and its sumptuous panoramas on the blue of the sea, Plougonvelin is one of those welcoming cities which it is easy to fall in love with in an instant. A holiday resort adored by connoisseurs, Plougonvelin, one of the most westerly communes in France, invites you to relax and discover the rhythm of the wind, the tides and the sun that caresses generously its coastline.
Located in the outskirts of Brest, on the tip of Finistère, Plougonvelin is a real nugget facing the sea of Iroise, adored for its reflections and its deep turquoise. With its steep cliffs shaped by the winds and the sea, Point Saint-Mathieu is certainly the most famous place in the seaside resort. Standing facing the sea, its imposing lighthouse adorned in red and white watches as a good guardian over the ruins of an ancient Romanesque abbey. The day visit is impressive, since you can observe Molène, the Ouessant islands, as well as the tip of the Raz offshore. The ideal for breathtaking views is to climb the 163 steps of the lighthouse for a 360° view of the sea, islands and lighthouses that make up the local landscape. In the distance you can also see the seaside resort of Le Conquet, starting point for numerous sea excursions to Ushant, Molène and the neighbouring islands. We also advise you to go to the lighthouse at sunset, when it lights up the remains of the old religious building and the sea takes on dark hues : the landscape becomes almost poetic ! Point Saint-Mathieu is also a place of walk since it is crossed by the famous GR 34 : this hiking route along the entire Breton coast and 50 years old was elected in 2018 "favourite hiking trail of the French". Whether you are a long-distance hiker or a Sunday walker, you will certainly find the itinerary adapted to your desires, which will allow you to discover the beaches, coves, dunes, groves, abers, rocks, light and perfumes that make Brittany such a magnificent place.
On the other side of Plougonvelin is its second major site : the Berthaume fort. Built by Vauban during the seventeenth century, the fort of Bertheaume watches over the entrance to the Brest Narrows from its rocky islet about thirty metres from the shore. If its primary vocation was to defend Brest militarily until 1944, it is today a place for visits, shows and exhibitions. It is also very famous among adrenaline lovers thanks to its superb climbing course, its treasure hunts but also for its two zip lines linking the fort to the mainland : strong sensations guaranteed.
But if Plougonvelin is so famous along the Breton coast, it is especially for its magnificent beaches. The "Plage de Perzel", under the fort of Bertheaume, is adored by yachtsmen as well as young people who come here for towed buoys and jet-skiing. Further north, the "Crique des Trois Curés" will surprise you with its beauty! Its water sometimes emerald, sometimes turquoise, its woods and its rocks give it small tunes of postcard. Very appreciated for swimming, we advise you to go to this little corner of paradise at daybreak to capture all the light reflected on the water. Finally, the "Plage du Trez Hir" beach is the most popular of Plougonvelin's beaches : one kilometre long, this sheltered, family and sporting beach is the perfect place to plant your parasol if you are a fan of water sports. To make the most of your holiday, you will have a wide range of activities to choose from : fishing on foot, diving, surfing, kayaking, windsurfing, sea hiking, sailing, sea rowing, longe-côte... You will be spoilt for choice !

Ushant Island is an absolute must. Also worth seeing: Le Conquet, Pointe du Petit Minou, Pointe Saint-Mathieu and the entire coastal path. Visit of Brest but especially Oceanopolis.
