In the heart of the Médoc, in the Gironde department, Gaillan-en-Médoc enjoys an absolutely fabulous location for nature and adventure lovers to enjoy a green holiday, close to the sea.

Between Hourtin and Soulac-sur-Mer, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, the commune of Gaillan-en-Médoc is located 70 kilometres from Bordeaux and about 50 kilometres from Lacanau, in the heart of a preserved natural environment that is particularly appreciated by visitors. A land of tradition, bathed in a climate that is particularly conducive to outdoor activities and the cultivation of vines, Gaillan-en-Médoc's popularity has grown over the years thanks to the reputation of its wines. In the cellars of the village, Bordeaux, AOC Médoc, Bordeaux Supérieur and Crémant de Bordeaux have been produced for decades, earning the town a fine reputation among gourmets and wine lovers. With a rich and ancient history, the village takes its name from Gallius, a rich Gallo-Roman landowner who owned a villa of which a few vestiges remain today on the side of the Terrefort vineyards. Its history, Gaillan-en-Médoc tells the story of its old stones, and its charming buildings that you can discover by taking the time to walk through its streets. Dating from the 12th century, the church of Saint-Pierre is one of the oldest buildings in the village, which impresses and fascinates thanks to the beauty of its octagonal bell tower, unique in the Gironde, which can be seen from just about anywhere in town.

After having taken the time to discover the village, and having initiated you to the delights of its gastronomy and its wines, what would you say to a small digestive walk? Whether you are walkers or mountain bikers, you will find in Gaillan-en-Médoc several routes that will lead you inland or to the sea. Several sites are to be seen in the area, such as the Richard lighthouse (17 kilometres away), the Arros coastal battery, the marvellous beaches of Verdon-sur-Mer, or the long and sunny ocean beaches of Montalivet such as Plage Vensac, which is perfect for surfing. The largest natural freshwater lake in France, Lac d'Hourtin is also a must-see. Spread over 18 kilometres long and 5 kilometres wide, it is ideal for leisurely or sporty strolls, but also for lunch in the water, sunbathing or water sports. Surrounded by dune forests to the west, and linked to the Bassin d'Arcachon by the splendid Lac de Lacanau, it is a small paradise for those who love water sports, from water skiing to canoeing, including stand-up paddle, kite surfing, wakeboarding, catamaran, sailing or motorboat trips... In short, everything to make your stay in the Gaillan-en-Médoc area unforgettable!
