Between ocean beaches and forests of fragrant pines, in the heart of the Médoc, Vensac has many assets to make your stay on the Gironde coast perfect.
80 kilometres north of Bordeaux, between the Gironde estuary and the Atlantic Ocean, Vensac is above all a discreet charm. Rather unknown to tourists, far from the hustle and bustle of the big seaside resorts of the region, Vensac is a love of unspoilt nature, calm and simplicity. Its originality lies perhaps in its proximity to the huge naturist centre Euronat located in the north of the town. However, Vensac is above all a family destination, made for lovers of the great outdoors and those who are afraid of the world; oh, there is a good chance that you will succumb to the beauty of its confidential beaches, known only to regulars. The 1.8 kilometre long main beach of Vensac, with its wide sandy shoreline, is the perfect setting for hiking and relaxation. Bordered by magnificent sandy dunes, it offers grandiose panoramas over the ocean, so it is not uncommon to be able to have the beach almost exclusively, especially thanks to its little secret side. In addition to the dunes, this splendid and wild beach has the particularity of sheltering several vestiges of the Second World War: bunkers. Unveiled at low tide, these tagged bunkers are adorned with magnificent colours, mixing art and history as rarely seen in the region. On the other hand, while walking, sunbathing and playing on the sand are possible, swimming is not supervised, and is even not recommended because of the baïnes. To swim, you'll have to go to the nearby beaches of the resort of Montalivet-les-Bains: with 12 kilometres of fine sandy coastline, it's the perfect place to practice a whole range of water sports. Swimming "of course", but also sea kayaking, paddle, surfing, sand yachting, bodyboarding, flysurfing, speed-sailing and other water sports will be on the agenda.
Mentioned as early as the 15th century, Vensac, which is situated on an ancient Roman road, is appreciated by connoisseurs for its production of Médoc wine. Take the time to stroll there to discover its 12th-century Romanesque church, renowned for the magnificence of its murals, not forgetting its 18th-century windmill, whose visit is particularly popular with children. Also, the commune has many hiking trails through dunes, countryside and vineyards, perfect for enjoying the fresh air and discovering the most beautiful faces of the Gironde. The Gironde also has more than 500 kilometres of cycle paths with exclusive right-of-way, 435 in the town, and more than 2000 kilometres of hiking trails, making it one of the most popular destinations for cycling and walking enthusiasts. In just a few pedal strokes, you can easily reach Soulac-sur-Mer, Le Verdon-sur-Mer, Lac d'Hourtin or Lacanau, located some 50 kilometres from Vensac.
