After a short petanque break at the boulodrome des Peupliers, and a fun visit to the Cactus Park, head to the heart of the village for a short walk to discover its heritage. Built in the middle of the vineyards, in the heart of the garrigue between the volcanoes of Mont Ramus and the elegant meanders of the Hérault River, Bessan, although known for its calm, is home to a dynamic and charming historic centre, where many celebrations take place throughout the year, including the Saint Lawrence Festival (and its traditional Donkey Dance, the town's totem animal). More than 1000 years old, this village, one of the oldest in France, reveals a rich medieval heritage in the image of its ramparts and a large gate (the Porte Saint-Pierre, former drawbridge), still visible today near the village church and the rue Porte Douille. Go through the rue de l'Hospice de l'Olivier, the boulevard de la Liberté, or the impasses of Labeille and Mijoulanes to discover a square tower. The Saint-Pierre church is worth the detour, notably because it houses the oldest bell in the Hérault (from 1388) perched at the top of its bell tower, but also for its remarkable Romanesque apse. The medieval chapel of Saint-Laurent de Touroule, the virgin Notre-Dame-des-Vignes at the crossroads of the Anciennes-Écoles and Victor Hugo streets, the Mission Cross in the rue de la Porte Saint-Pierre, not forgetting the arcaded Town Hall, the Place de la Promenade, those of the Fountain and of the Republic and the ruins of the fortified Bladier mill will be added to the "to-do list" of sites that are not to be missed when passing through Bessan.

With family or friends, you will find in Bessan many mountain bike routes (towards Montagnac, Vias, Florensac, Nizas...), walking and horseback riding that will allow you to discover all the richness of this area studded with grandiose panoramas on nature... But also on the sea! As the Mediterranean is only 10 kilometres from the heart of the village, you can easily reach the beaches of Vias or Agde for sunny breaks by the water. Relaxation, gourmet breaks in restaurants with sea view, swimming and water activities (such as jet-skiing, surfing, paddle, scuba diving, bodyboarding...) will complete this stay in the Hérault!
