Shaped by the waves for centuries, the Petite Cité de Caractère du Croisic is one of the pride of the Loire-Atlantique department. A Breton woman at heart, Le Croisic is part of the Pays de la Loire region and is the pride of the whole region thanks to its absolutely sumptuous landscapes. Authentic, dynamic, wild and magnificent, Le Croisic, from the western tip of the Guerande peninsula, is definitely open to the sea.
A picturesque little port that vibrates with the comings and goings of its fishing and pleasure boats moored along its quays, Le Croisic is a maritime city in which it is pleasant to stroll. From private mansions to old and wealthy residences, during your visit to the old port, you will cross the path of high 17th century houses decorated with wrought iron balconies and half-timbered houses, typical of the coast and its neighbour Brittany. After taking the pulse of this bustling port, renowned for its shrimp fishing, take a stroll along the Tréhic jetty, then venture into the maze of alleys of its old town. Take the "Grande Rue" to discover the Hôtel d'Aiguillon, a beautiful 17th century private mansion known to have been d'Artagnan's residence in the work of Alexandre Dumas. Just next door, in the rue de la Duchesse Anne, the Notre-Dame-de-Pitié church dominates the port of its impressive lantern tower. 56 meters high, this curious church of flamboyant Gothic style built between the 15th and 16th centuries has kept all its charm of yesteryear: its superb stained glass windows, its decorations and its naves are really worth a visit. Formed by boats that abandoned their stone ballast to be able to ship their goods (such as Guérande salt), Mont Esprit and Mont Lénigo are two of the highlights of your visit. From these two beautiful belvederes, you can enjoy a 360° view of Le Croisic and the sea as far as the eye can see. The Menhir de la Pierre longue located near the seafront, but also the Fort de l'Océan, the Crucifix chapel, the very original lighthouse of the Plateau du Four painted in black and white (the colours of the Breton flag) and the manor house of Kervaudu are to be added to the list of monuments that you will have to visit to perfect your local culture.
You will not be able to stay at Le Croisic without walking along the paths of its famous Océarium: the 3rd most visited site in the department and the 6th largest aquarium in France, it shelters no less than 4000 different species of fish, including penguins and sharks. This exciting journey into the underwater world is ideal for the whole family to enjoy; moreover, the Océarium is the perfect refuge for a little freshness in case of extreme heat, and is also a perfect shelter in case of capricious weather....
As for hiking, the Côte Sauvage is full of hiking and cycling routes, which will allow you to capture all the magic of the Croisic coast. The "wild coast circuit" in particular, 7.2 kilometres long, will allow you to take beautiful and long iodized walks to discover the richness of the cut coastline, dotted with a series of small coves, from its sleeper's rock to the bear's rock, passing through the high altar and the needle's rock. If the path is impressive in its beauty, especially from Port-Lin to the "beach of Saint-Goustan", the "circuit des peintres" with 25 desks will allow you to discover Le Croisic through the oils and paintings that the painters, seduced by the seaside resort during the time of the sea baths, were able to create during the 19th and 20th centuries. The "Les Landes du Gouverneur" (6.4 kilometres) and "Du Sel aux Vignes" tours will finally show you the richness of this "Petite Cité de Caractère", from its moors to its mills, passing through the Parc de Penn Avel, the former vineyards of the commune, the Grand Traict and the salt marshes of the Guérande region.
Facing the inland gulf of Grand-Traict, this family resort has some very beautiful beaches perfect for long idleness breaks, as well as multiple rocky coves, characteristic of the Wild Coast. After tasting pancakes, crabs, shrimps, soles, winkles, snails, kouign amann and other local delicacies, sit back and relax on the white sand of the very quiet "Saint-Goustan beach": located north of the Croisic peninsula, just at the foot of the Tréhic jetty, it is much appreciated by families for its tranquility and the clarity of its waters, as is the "Port Lin beach" on which you will also find a club for children. Finally, do you like water sports? Know that you can go kayaking, paddle, horseback riding, sailing, jet skiing, but also cruises, sea trips to discover the nearby islands, surfing, sea fishing and scuba diving from the Croisix beaches. And if you don't have a sea foot, then climbing or golf can certainly satisfy you as well.
