It is in the Aquitaine region that the commune of Barbaste is located. Located at the confluence of the Baïse and Gélise rivers, between the hillsides and the forests, this green resort is considered the gateway to the Landes de Gascogne forest. Lovers of old stones, culture and holidays in harmony with nature, it is in Barbaste that you must settle your suitcases.
Halfway between Bordeaux and Toulouse, the town of Barbaste attracts many curious, eager to discover what was the land of King Henry IV. In the heart of the Lot-et-Garonnaise countryside, this green village is home to a remarkable historical heritage: the Barbaste Mill is worth a visit. Located on the right bank of the Gélise, the Moulin des Tours is undoubtedly the most famous building in Barbaste. Classified as a Historic Monument since 1889, it houses a 13th century fortified mill, consisting of 4 square towers, and a 12th century Romanesque bridge, famous for its 10 arches. Appreciated by painters and tourists, this site welcomes several thousand visitors each year. For the anecdote, this defensive building counted enormously in the life of Henri IV, who signed his letters "le meunier de Barbaste" when he stayed there.
Green city, it is criss-crossed by many hiking trails that will allow you to discover the most beautiful landscapes of Barbastais, but also neighbouring villages such as Vianne, Lausseignan and Mézin. Sometimes rural, sometimes sporty, on foot, on horseback or by bicycle, there are many itineraries : at the foot of the immense bastides bordering the Baïse, on the steps of Henri IV, through the rows of fruit trees or along the streams which cross the village, you will be able to take full advantage of the mild climate and the green panoramas of the region. In terms of entertainment, Cap Cauderoue offers a wide range of sporting activities for young and old : acrobatic course in the trees, canoe trip in the Gélise, archery, laser game, orienteering race, cani-rando, karting or pony ride... All in a beautiful natural wooded setting. Equipped with your putters, your woods and your irons, you can go to the Golf d'Albret to perfect your swing in the heart of an 18-hole practice, dotted with willows, centenary oaks, acacias and pines.
Barbaste being located at the entrance of the Landes de Gascogne Regional Natural Park, it will be easy for you to reach in a few minutes the largest forest massif in France. Kingdom of maritime pines, it shelters many animal and vegetable species, but also superb lakes like that of Hostens, just 90 kilometres from Barbaste : it is the ideal place for a relaxation break on the sand, but also for an initiation to kayaking and paddle.
After a walk through the pine forest, orchards and vineyards around, take a break to eat. Gastronomes are here at the right place, because Barbaste is rich of a gourmet soil, where foie gras and prunes of Agen mix with wines of character of the South-West and Armagnac.
Finally, to make the most of your holiday, take a real wellness break : the spa, hammam, sauna and heated swimming pool of the Moulin de Larroque will be perfect to cut yourself off from the outside world and think of just one thing : to relax !

King Henry's cruises, departing from Nérac, are a magical moment. The many gourmet markets (every evening, there is a wide choice) are a moment of delight and conviviality mixing tourists and locals.
