Nestled in the hollow of one of the meanders of the Lot, in the Occitan region, Prayssac is one of the most beautiful jewels of Quercy. In the heart of the Lot valley, about thirty kilometres from Cahors, this natural and historical destination is worth the detour for cultural and exotic stays.
Prayssac, a green resort in the Cahors vineyards, has been organised around its church since the 8th century. Marked by history, this charming town sees its origins go back a long, long way, thanks to the many marks of the past left by the civilizations of the Neolithic period. Its path of dolmens is to be seen: you will be able to discover the dolmen of Bertrandoune, listed as a Historic Monument. 3.5 metres long and 2.5 metres wide, it is also close to the dolmen with the vestibule of Quetty, or the "armchair of Caesar", a rock carved in the shape of an armchair. To the list of historical heritage to be seen during your stay in Prayssac, you can add the Château du Théron, a former fortified castle flanked by a square tower from the 13th century, round towers from the 15th century and a chapel from the 14th century, as well as the church of Saint-Barthélemy, built in the second half of the 19th century.
Between water and wine, Prayssac flourishes along the Lot, a river that is ideal for family nature activities. Whether for sport or relaxation, the Lot will suit all your desires. Its banks will be ideal for your family, contemplative or sporting strolls. You can hike there, but also opt for cycling or horse-riding expeditions, but the best way to discover Prayssac and its surroundings is to embark on a canoe or kayak to visit the town and its neighbours by force of arms. Along the water, in the coolness of the river, beautiful green excursions await you, for a resourcing and beneficial natural interlude. Prayssac is above all a land of escape, with numerous walking trails perfect for discovering every nook and cranny. The town is situated in the heart of wooded landscapes, composed of magnificent oaks planted on limestone rocks, and vineyards which are used to make the famous "Vin de Cahors", which we recommend you taste with good small dishes based on foie gras, truffle or Quercy saffron: a de-lice!
Finally, while in Prayssac, take the opportunity to visit the most beautiful corners of the Lot and neighbouring departments such as the Dordogne: Puy-l'Évêque, the imposing perched castle of Bonaguil, but also Villefranche-de-Périgord, Sarlat-la-Canéda, Castelnaud-la-Chapelle and its magnificent castle, Cahors and its emblematic Pont Valentré, Cabrerets and its Pech-Merle Cave are all sites to see during your holidays in Prayssac!
