Ah, Granville... Who has never heard of the one they call "Monaco du Nord"? Cultural, historical and sunny, this charming seaside resort has everything to seduce travellers in search of authenticity and elegance.

Perched on its rock surrounded by ramparts, Granville la coquette consists of cosy granite residences, which look down from their spurs onto a large fishing port and a marina below its walls. Granville, a seaside resort, port and island city, is renowned for its thalassotherapy centre, which is very popular with people who come to rest here after having benefited from seawater treatments provided in its centre. Golfers? The Granville Golf Club (with its links designed by Harry Shapland Colt from the United Kingdom) will satisfy greens enthusiasts thanks to its 27-hole course and its practice open all year round.

You can only be surprised by Granville's heritage: the Upper Town, surrounded by ramparts, has a large number of historical sites such as its Grand' Porte, the Notre-Dame church and the Porte Saint-Jean. Above all, Granville is a cultural centre with a wide range of museums to suit all tastes. The Christian Dior Museum, the Museum of Art and History, the Richard Anacréon Museum of Modern Art, the Roc des Curiosités (museum and aquarium)... The Christian Dior Museum is certainly one of the most visited: housed in the star couturier's childhood home, a villa nicknamed "Les Rhumbs", this emblematic museum of the city unveils magnificent exhibitions during the summer period, with haute-couture pieces by Dior himself, or even some works by Marc Bohan and John Galliano, his successors at the head of the Dior house. To discover Granville at its best, you will have to walk through it: The Granville Lighthouse is a must, as is Christian Dior's Garden, the port's orientation table that offers an absolutely splendid view of the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel, but also the Atlantic Wall, Cambernon Square, the Théâtre de la Haute-Ville... We recommend you to stroll along the Promenade du Plat Gousset, along the North Wall, on the Promenade André Tible in the middle of the water or along the Quai du Pan Coupé, to enjoy superb views of the sea, the port (first shell port in France) and the privateer city. And whether you are on foot or by bike, nothing beats a short hike from Pointe de Lude (on the border with Donville-les-Bains) to Pointe du Roc and Cap Lihou, for a perfect discovery of the city and its coast.

A must to visit? The Chaussey archipelago. With its 365 islets spread over 40 square kilometres of white sand and turquoise water, it only reveals about fifty of them at high tide. Classified as Natura 2000, this site, with its exceptional biodiversity, is home to a very large number of marine animals such as grey seals and dolphins, as well as cormorants, gulls and crested mergansers. A popular place for fishing on foot at low tide, you will find shellfish and crustaceans in large quantities, such as clams, bouquets and lobsters. Climb onto the lighthouse of the Big Island, take a walk towards the Calvary, or even to the Matignon fortress to discover the heritage of these amazing islands.

Finally, it is impossible to visit Granville without swimming there: the Plat Gousset beach near the Casino, the Herel beach, the wild beach of Hacqueville or the Fourneau beach will be ideal for all your idleness or swimming desires.
