Ah, Le François! Just thinking about it, we dream of taking a plane ticket right away and packing our suitcases! Pearl of Martinique, about twenty kilometers from Fort-de-France, the town is bordered by its eponymous bay which makes its reputation among tourists. A paradise for nautical activities, the bay of François is above all a true treasure of nature, renowned for its large expanses of sandy white bottoms and very fishy, magnificent lagoons protected by a large coral reef. This bay with its captivating beauty is studded with 8 islets: Frégate, Pelé, Long, Lapin, Thierry, Anonymous, Oscar and Lavigne islet. The latter, the largest of all, is the result of an underwater volcanic explosion, and is accessible by boat like its neighbouring islets, or by kayak. If it is particularly worth the detour, it is for its long white sand beaches spread out over several meters, overlooking crystal-clear water to be damned. This is where the famous "Josephine's Bath" is located, one of the most famous places in François: between Oscar and Thierry islands, this wide strip of white sand offers its lucky visitors a unique place to bathe, in the heart of translucent water that you will rarely have the chance to see. Starting from Thierry Island, diving enthusiasts will find an 800-metre loop, an underwater trail totally dedicated to fun snorkelling, which will allow them to discover the magnificence of the sea bed with the help of fins, masks and snorkels. In addition to scuba diving and kayaking, you can opt for a yawl ride, a boat ride, a kitesurfing session or hiking and horseback riding along the coast.

On the cultural heritage side, Le François will delight lovers of authenticity. If there is one place that tourists don't miss during their visit to the town, it is the Habitation Clément. A former sugar house, located on the Acajou estate, it houses a former rum distillery which has since been converted into a museum, dedicated to the manufacture of rum and its history. You will be able to see old cellars, as well as superb Creole-style houses, most of which are listed. After tasting some of this alcohol, local star, take time to visit the botanical park at the back of the Habitation Clément, a park dotted with exotic plants and tall palm trees under which it is good to rest. After this visit, head to the François town centre to discover its Saint-Michel church which stands proudly on the main square, not forgetting the 1901 town hall built in a local style. Martinique dance festivals (la Haute Taille), markets and gourmet tastings of cabri au Columbo, gratins of cristophine, grilled fish and other coconut flans will give your holidays a little taste of "come back"!
