Wedged between the Auray and Étel rivers, Ploemel has a rich history dating back to the Neolithic period. After being occupied by the Celts, the Venetians and the Romans, it was the Bretons who settled in this millenary land in the 7th century. From its past, Ploemel has kept an interesting and important architectural heritage, which will certainly win the hearts of lovers of old stones. As you walk through the narrow streets of this picturesque old town, you will have the opportunity to cross the road to the Chapel of Locmaria: built during the 14th century on the site of Locmaria, this chapel known for its engraved funeral slab is the oldest religious building in the municipality. A true sanctuary dedicated to sailors, the Chapelle de la Recouvrance not far from here also deserves a visit thanks to its superb 16th and 17th century wall paintings.
